day time running lamp and auto headlights override?

is there any way i can turn my headlights off on my own? i thought i read about a way to override the system but i searched and could not find it. Brad

And so far as I know, for those that want to just use the dome light override method, it will NOT work on Canadian vehicles...

Been thinking about the lights on front of truck myself. I bought some of those high dollar HIR bulbs(high & low) but don't want to have those low beam DRL's burning all the time and don't want to have to do the disable thing all the time. How's about turning my park lights into DRL's then let my quad setup work on it's own. I'm not a wiring guy but surely someone can figure this out, right???????????

I'd say do the drl disable with the resistor and then just turn the switch to parking when you want them on to use them as the drls.

The resistor is only for the automatic headlights... That system is independent from the DRL system...

oh yeah my bad got them confused. I think they're both a great thing to do though. Just a waste of money letting expensive bulbs turn on when you don't want/need them on.

Automatic headlights aren't really going to hurt halogens a whole bunch...

I think DRL are a good safety feature. It does make a vehicle better visible. I can see saving some hours burning an expensive bulb. I just turn mine off with a few pushes of the dome light switch when needed.
It really has not been a problem with My Toshiba HIR bulbs.

I use my park lights as DRL's...

If using DRL's does burn out bulbs sooner... They are cheaper to replace than my HIR's or HID's

I just don't like the fact that cars do everything for us. If I wanted my headlights on I would turn them on. Thats the way I see it. But I'm also all for a standard because if I wanted it in a certain gear I'd put it there. I guess I just don't like things done for me is all when it comes to driving. Like the automatic wipers on the newer cars. If I wanted them on I'd turn them on. Sorry just a little rant there. I will admit higher safety is a plus I'm not denying that but I just don't want to feel lazy or dumbed down because the car does everything for me.

I think maybe some of you are missing the question. I like the DRL's being on for safety reasons and like them coming on automatically and like not having to push buttons all the time to disable something that is susposed to be working for a reason.

I just rather these lights be the parking lights and come on automatic when in gear. Surely there is an electrical guru out there who can figure this out and make it work?

I've got faith in those who can read an electrical schematic and know the difference between an amp and a volt(none of which I do). Hell let's throw out a challenge to the first one who figures it out and posts it up here will get the new title of "BRAIN of the MONTH". Now that ought to make all electrical nuts jump up off your a$$, a title on the line!!!!!!!!!

I have seen this question posted for the 4 yrs that I have been on S-10 forums. Either there is a lack of interest in this mod or there are a lot more people like you and I. They just won't admit their lack of expertise.

Actually, It's fairly simple :p

First, disable your DRL's.

I know, weird first step, but stay with me here, lol.

Then you need to open your dash so you can access the back of the headlight switch...

There's a white wire... I can't remember if it's the only one... Splice that into the parking lamp power wire.

BAM! Parking light DRL's.
.... Or it should be, at any rate... I think if you DON'T do the normal DRL disable mod (bending pin 86 on the DRL relay) you'll probably have your highbeams on at the same time.

I found this out when I wanted a low beam power relay for my HID's and quad beam mod, with NO DRL's.

HOWEVER! I take no responsibility for anything that happens, as I do NOT know the power rating for that circuit... It's pretty much just a relay trigger so the headlights can turn on.... It draws 0.2 amps.

Let me know if you want me to snap a pic or something so you get the right wire

DRL's are not mandatory to have, so far as I know...

They're just required to be sold on all Canadian vehicles since 1990...

I don't think it's a requirement in the US.
