aftermarket wheels & backspacing.

thinking about getting new wheels and tires, my truck is stock so what is the biggest tire i can put on it and what backspacing do i need for the wheels?

When mine was still stock, I had 15x7 US Wheel Daytonas (Rockcrawlers) with 4.5" BS and 30x9.5 tires and rubbed on the bottom of the wheel well when turning and flexing. Basically the only way to have no chance of rubbing without any sort of lift is to get wheels with the same specs as stock (15x7 w/6" BS) and no bigger than 30x9.5 tires.

How about with just a t-bar adjustment? That might give him a little more of an option.

My t-bars were cranked with the Rockcrawlers and 30's and still rubbed. I fixed it with a little BFH wheel well adjustment, but not everyone is comfortable with hitting their truck with an 8lb sledge.

Like Mark said, you can't go up much stock. Best bet is to install a body lift. that'll get your truck looking like a 4x4

I am even a little more conservative, in that I was able to make the stock optional 235/75-15 tires rub running the stock wheels.
There just is not much room for larger tires while stock. As they said with a little fender massage, or trimming , 30's will work, but the more you reduce the rear spacing the more rubbing you will get.

Each vehicle seems to be slightly different. The best bet is to check yours and see how much room you have.

Put one wheel up on a curb or ramp. Turn the wheel to the point where it is closest to the rear portion of the fender. This will be the corner of the tread and sidewall. See how much clearance you have.
A reduction in rearspacing will close this gap as will an increase in tire diameter and , or width.

You can probably say that stock tires for a stock truck are the biggest you can go.
After a bodylift 30's are as big as you can go with no rubbing.
If you don't mind trimming you can go one size larger with minor rubbing issues. The same goes for adding a reduction in rear spacing.

As you can see there are many variables, and no solid answer. The best option is to measure yourself, and decide what you would like to have and then ask if anyone thinks there will be problems before you invest.

I actually got my 30's (on stock wheels with no BL) to rub on the top of the wheel well with the wheels straight. Flying into a 2 ft deep hole that's 12'x12' at 40 mph will tend to flex out the front suspension a little.

Oh yea, Brule, at full flex, my rear tires just tuck inside the fenders with the 3" spacers on

I got a chance to try it a few weeks ago, and forgot to tell you. The 3" spacers really make a difference in the look. The tires are a bit more inline with the flares on the rear now. Pics to come soon.

On a side hill flex you may need a little cushion, or extra space

There was about an inch left. It was kinda on a hill. I had to back my trailer down a hill to unload a weight machine in our gym, and the hill was too steep to back straight down, so I had to go sideways, and turn sharp at the bottom. The side that was compressed was the downhill side

at 1st I ran a wheel with 5in BS on 30/15s and never rubbed once.

Excellent choice! You won't regret this as your first mod. I think it really changes the attitude of the truck.

Oh yea, get some rear spacers too. You've probably noticed how you're front tires line up with the wheel well quite nicely, but your rear tires sit inside the fenders. I think the rear track on the CC's is 2" narrower than the front. Plus, our beds have a good sized fender bulge, making things worse. I went with 2" spacers on the rear, and the rear tires line up perfectly with the fenders. Yes, it was a bit wider than the front, but I never noticed because both the front and rear tires lined up with the fenders.

if you get a body lift how high will you go? I was originally going to get a 3" body lift on my truck, but then i just decided to go with the 6" SL. I spent alot more money then i had originally hoped with tires and everything. i think the body lift and new tires will make your truck look alot better.

I emailed the guy with the ZR2 in the pic above and this is what he said about the size:

"The wheels are TSW Q5 18inX9in with a 35mm front wheel drive offset. Factory rims are a 37mm frontwheel drive offset. The tires are Nitto Terragrappler, you can find the tire and specs on Nitto's website if you dont understand these.
285/60 R18 Tread depth 13.1X1/32in Overall inflated diameter 31.38in Overall width 11.54in Approved rim size 8.0-10.0in Maximum load /pressure 3086lbs at 50psi

The factory tire size is a 31inch and the tires now are 31.38inch, so the speedo was not a noticable difference, however it may be off a mph or 2. I have not had it checked w a tach, but i have paced a car with no alterations and they were in sync."

my biggest problem right now is finding tires that im happy with and that fit and look good with only a BL i cant go any bigger then 30.5" overall

Hey guys How are things? Just made it back to England from Iraq and I have the bug to up grade my tires like I was asking before. I was checking out a some rims on DiscountTireDirect.com and was wondering if any of you have bought from them. They say that the following tire/wheel combo will work on our truck. MB Wheels Blitz / 16X8 5-120.65 25MM with a tire size 245/75/16. The tires I am looking at are a set of Cooper ATRs. It is a stock 2004 s-10 CC. I am stationed in England and dont get to do much off roading just mainly highway driving. I want to change the wheel and tires out and be able to run something that gives it more of a 4x4 look then what it came with if you know what mean. Until I get back to the states I most likely wont do any kind of lifts. And also if this would work could I go bigger with the tires and still have no rub.

Hello to all, (newbie here). I finally found this site a couple weeks ago. I've been looking to do many of the mods that I have found here, but never really got the chance to yet or never knew how to go about them. I'm the original owner of a 2001 black CC. However, today I decided to join the site, and give my $0.02. Not sure if "centerlinewheels.com" had been mentioned before or not, but I found a couple sets of wheels on there that catch my eye, as I too have been trying to find the elusive aftermarket wheel for my truck. They have a lot of wheels to choose from for our truck proper bolt pattern and 5.5" BS. Any way, let me know what you think about Sahara or the Wedge wheel on our truck, as I may buy them soon. 15x8 with 5.5BS.

There is only one set of the wedge at the $132 price. Kinda puts you in the hot seat to grab them or not.

Nope, Don't mind the polishing. There will be no black wheels for me>Black truck+black tonneau+black windows+black tires+black etc=too black. I like a little bling here and there. Not exactly sure which wheel to go with as I'm also debating between the Centerline Big Sur or Malibu or Terminator wheel.

Personally I like the Mojave better, but if I had to pick between the Sahara or Wedge, I would definitely go for the Sahara.

Can't blame you for that line of reasoning

I'd be searching for a little "bling, bling" with a black rig. I'm at the stage where I am presently not "into" high maintainence which a black truck and polished wheels require.

I may again in the future just not now. How many miles on your CC, style OEM wheels?

Yeah, Killian96SS, I've loved it from day 1. As for the Mojave's-I have the brake dust issue on the DS wheel occuring-there are too many small simulated screw heads to clean around-Otherwise they would be in the mix of debated wheels as well. Actually, Your truck is the kind of look I'm going towards with slight changes.

Currently, I have the original N90 wheels, and I've been & plan on running 30X9.5's for the last couple years (no mods). I got around 77,000 on the clock.

I just did the TB crank and Air Box Mod a couple days ago when I finally got some free time.
