4.3L/262 & 4.3L/265??

This has confused me for a while now and I'm hoping someone will clarify this for me. Summit's website has parts listings for the 4.3L/262 and 4.3L/265... Whats the deal with that? Is one a newer or later version of the 4.3 or something? I guess the part that confuses me the most is that both engine specs are listed under 2002 S10 4WD CC.

Strange. I've never seen or heard of the 4.3 being refered to as anything other an a 262. But just for laughs, if you take 350 and divide by 5.7, you get 61.40350877192982456140350877193. If you take that numbey and multiply it by 4.3, you get 264.0350877192982456140350877193.

But, then again, if engine displacement is measured anything like computer processor speeds, thing are always off just a bit. Example: An old AthlonXP Barton core processor runs on a doubled system bus of 166MHz (effectively 332MHz), but when advertised, it's listed as having a 333MHz system bus. It only 1 MHz, but you get my point

Or a processor having a clock frequency of 1992 MHz, being avertised as 2 GHz.

I have seen that option on Summit but, I just opt for the 262 CI option.

I have seen that option on Summit but, I just opt for the 262 CI option.

I always default to the 262 search criteria...I just wonder why there are 2 CID measurements given...I dont suppose it has anything to do with the 2 different offerings of the 4.3, I am referring to the "high out put" engine code W I think versus the standard 4.3 thats in the 2WD S10...I dont know. Thanks for the input though!

I think Chevy made a 4.3/262ci V8 back in the 80's but it was never put in anything but Monte Carlos, Monzas and other mid size GM cars. Too bad they never used it for S-10's because it would make swapping to a 350 V8 easy. Same as a 350 on the outside.

As far as I know that is the one we have except ours have a balance shaft and vortec heads

There is no real problem here. When you convert Cubic Inches to Litres they all fall into the 4.3l range so they all are correct.

Since manufactures are liberal in there use of numbers you will have to know what you are looking for...

My qestion is/was not "I dont know which is correct", it was "why are there 2 CID measurements given for the 4.3L on Summit's website". Granted they both roughly equal 4.3L I found it strange that 262 & 265 were listed as search criteria under 2002 chevy s10....thanks for the advice none the less.

I would just default to the 262 measurement. More than likelly some one at one of the manufacturers mistyped the number when sending the info to Summit or somthing....

Yeah..I always search under 262 CI, I agree...someone has a wire or two crossed somewhere over at Summit possibly.
