First Warranty Issue (seat fabric)

Post by Mike »

I just brought my truck in for warranty work at 11,000 miles. :x The seat cover on the drivers side started to have areas where the cloth was coming off so that you could see the base material. (looked like holes in the material). I know I saw someone else who had this problem in one of these posts. Did they just take it to an upholstry(sp) shop or did they put a new seat cover on it? They said they are sending it to an upholstry shop for repair of the damage section of the seat. The back seat also had a line running horizontally across the seat back. It looked as if it had been cut or a thread had come out, so they are looking at that also. I hardly ever have anyone or anything in the back seat so I don't know what is going on there. Do we have to pay ANYTHING for these repairs or are they 100% covered? Anyone else seeing this happen on thier trucks? 11,000 miles per seat cove sure is a poor wear ratio considering I have seen cars go for 200,000 miles without any real wear on the seat fabric like this.

I've got the same thing. After I bought my truck I put a towel down so when I got off work I don't get the seat dirty. Well, any how one day I took the towel off and I was vacuuming the truck I saw two holes in the seat like yours. I thought it was something I could of done. Now, I see others have the same issue I'll take to the dealer and see what they say. JH68

Anyone know if you are supposed to get a loaner vehicle

Post by Mike »

Does anyone know what the warranty specifies for transportation when your truck is in for warranty repairs? Are they supposed to provide you with a loaner vehicle? :?:

If they're expected to have it overnight for a warranty issue, then yes, you're supposed to get a loaner vehicle.

in socal, people here like to put on flower print seat covers, even if the seat is brand new. i dont know if its like this anywhere else. you will see a brand new jeep or convertable and then a red or green or blue flower print seat cover. i think its kind of a surfer thing. if my seats wear out, i guess i will just follow suite

I've seen those "wet suit" type seat cover also. I was not a big leather fan but after owning a few vehicles with leather, I'm suprised how durable it is. As long as you take care of it to keep it from getting too many cracks in it, IMHO, it's just as durable as cloth seats but stains less.

I almost forgot that I got the answer to this from my upholstery guy, Richard.

The "fuzzy" is being removed from inside. (Figures, it was an inside job ;) )

The seat foam has strips of heavy hook & loop strips (like velcro) that hold the cover in place. If it comes loose or is not properly aligned it pulls the fuzzy inside, leaving the bare backing and the holy appearance.

Richard says it is fairly common and repairs quite a few vehicles even before they are sold.

Some of them start looking like acid was spilled on them

If you find yours doing this before the warranty is up , they should fix it since it is a defect in alignment of the seat covering.

I have a couple of spots where it looks like the "fuzzy stuff" has come off and exposed the base material. I thought about getting leather. There was a really nice CrewCab on the lot that was black with the leather seats. Looked sweet. I decided against it because of my then 2 year old. Leather with a toddler? Nuts! Turns out I should have got leather. Everyone I've talked to said it's great. Kids can't kill it. Spill anything on it? Wipes right off. They can even crayon all over them. Cleans right up. Oh well, what did I know?
