Headlights?

Headlights?
I know this was discussed before, and its the same as 'what are the best tires', BUT, overall, what would be a good headlight to put in?
I have a set of 'hyper white' or whatever they called them (they came from an 'auto appearance store') that a friend had in their Avalanche until they put a true HID kit on theirs. I had a bulb go out, so they gave me theirs (both high and low beam).. and in a word, these a JUNK
Even in town, they arent putting as much useable light on the ground as the factory.. And the high beam is pretty much worthless.. its bright if you are in front looking at it, but nothing shows up in the light.. offroad I think I'd do better with them off and going by feel You can REALLY tell the difference when I hit the 'fog' lights (seem more like short range offroad lights to me the way they light up the ground in front of the truck.. they work great to see a trail..) those little lights, even at short range are MUCH better..
I went through the end of last rainy season with these and am NOT looking forward to doing that again, so I want to change them out before the weather gets bad..
Any ideas? I've heard good and bad about the 'Silverstar' I think its called? I've been told they are very good visibility but burnout wuick with our DRL setup?
Any thoughts about basically factory haolgens, but upping the wattage on the high beam side? Will the headlight housings we have handle the extra heat of the next power up bulb (the ones from the 4x4 shops)?
When they put the HID in the Avalanceh I thought they would melt the factory light, but they claimed those were actually running COOLER than a halogen But I dont want to drop $500 on an HID kit, especially since I still have a DOA a/c to deal with.
Thanks

I recall someon here had a problem with replacement bulbs running too hot and melting the headlight assembly. I do not remember which bulbs they were though.

Am running silverstars for about 15 months w/o problems, I like them but, many will tell you that they are short lived.

15 and 18 months isnt bad for the Silverstars.. better than people had told me.. How do they do for visibility?
I thought I'd remembered someone saying their lights had melted down too, but couldnt find anything in a search, so maybe it was on another S10 site..

There fine in the visibility department. My wife met me at night one time and said they look blue but, I don't see that. I rarely need my high beams so, they must be pretty good. I got my wife a set of Nitehawks and they do a very good job as well.kf6kmx wrote:15 and 18 months isnt bad for the Silverstars.. better than people had told me.. How do they do for visibility?.
I don't recall seeing that but, I do recall trouble with factory fogs with some bulbskf6kmx wrote:I thought I'd remembered someone saying their lights had melted down too, but couldnt find anything in a search, so maybe it was on another S10 site..

Ok.. went and did it.. got the Silverstars last night and put them in..
Those are incredible compared to what I had in there!
Not only can I actually SEE the ground at night, when on high beam, it lights up the GROUND in front of the truck.. the other ones that were in there wouldnt reflect off the ground at all on high beam..
I'm impressed!
