Throttle body spacer, yes or no??

Post by 04revx »

Looking for some input. Will it make a difference in HP in our 4.3's? There is one on Ebay going for $1 (Helix Power).

Some people like them, and some don't. I like the design of the Powerdyne TB spacer and they claim 20 hp, but I find that hard to believe. Some of the spiral TB spacers will make an annoying whistling noise. This is due to the exremely flat angle of the spiral in some designs. The spiral design would work alot better if they would just make the angle of the spiral steeper or more vertical kind of like the ones Motorvation makes. IMOP the best 2 designs are made by Powerdyne and Jet. A smooth bore TB spacer would also work well. Any TB spacer will give you additional intake volume which should increase hp and torque, but the results will vary. The one you saw on E-Bay is a good price @ $1, but it will probably go higher near the end of the auction.

Some of them really are worthless! If they were only like $20-30 then it would be worthwhile, but some of them are like $100. No matter what the design is, more intake volume will make more power, but how much is limited by the design. This is why I think a smooth bore would be the safest bet.

Yes , I still have the Vararam. It is for sale if someone else wants to try it ;)

I am running the Helix Power Tower.
It does raise the TB 1" making it easy to change stats and lines the intake up better after the 2" BL , that is about all I can say in it's favor.

How much do you want for that state of the art Vararam?

Brule, what do you think about a 2" smooth bore TB spacer? I was thinking about having one of my friends make one. It would at least bring everything back to the proper height after the 2" BL. :) I wonder if 2" would make any power difference over 1"? I have experimented alot with spacers on high performance carbureted engines with good results, but it seems these fuel injected engines respond differently. :?

How does $20 shipped sound?
As for a smooth bore 2" spacer...why not? As long as there is no interfernce issues you should be good.

I am running the FIPK, so 1" spacer is about all there is room for after the bodylift.

I have heard of those without a BL, having hood clearance issues running the 1" spacer and FIPK.

Have you modified it in any way? These are $30 new, so I guess $20 shipped is fair. :) Can you send me a PM with your address? Here is a link for the Powerdyne Power Plate TB spacer. This is an interesting design which they claim is better than their competition.

I sanded it a little around the top so that the FIPK's adapter would fit properly. It should still work just fine.

Sending PM :D
