Steering Problems

Post by TheBigFitz »

Steering on truck has been slowly becoming stiff, and sometimes when you turn it feels like it is trying to pull back to straight. Any ideas what is going on? Checked the power steering fluid already and it is good.

Didn't someone have a pump go bad?

Seems like it exploded?

I wonder if it could be the sensor in the steering that adjusts the resistance in your steering. We had the opposite happen in our "police package" Tahoes. You'd be going at highway speeds in a medium curve and suddenly the resistance in the steering wheel would disappear and you'd suddenly turn the wheel sharper than needed. Gawd, not a good feeling :!:

Dealer's would replace the sensors and correct the problem.

I'm thinking it may be a CV joint going out on the left front. The boot pulled off and the grease came out, not sure how many miles it was like that. Had the boot repacked and a new band put on it, seems better now and I can actually turn the wheel without it pulling back when driving, but still has a bit of a wander in the wheel once in a while. I am gonna drive it a bit more to see how it feels, but if it is not the CV I think it may be the sensor, my boss had the same thing and problem with his full size that I have, but mine is not quite as bad. It is not leaking power steering fluid though.

most of my dads conversion vans he biulds for handicap folks have zero effort steering, imagine turning lock to lock at a dead stop using your pinky, now imagine going down the interstate at around 80mph with the same amount of resistance, scary

It can be very "disconcerting" at the least! Especially when you are responding to an officer (who is a long time friend) in distress.

I do not even know if there is a sensor such as I have been told about and suggested here.

I think I am slowly swaying a service manager of three dealerships into the darkside.

Every state has different 10 codes and "signal"s. Some codes are the same, some vary. Have worked some in six different states and all were different.

KY's "quick action required" is signal nine

Border Patrol uses 10-10(all available respond) or when the $#** really hits the fan 10-99(officer down).
