Tires tires tires !?!?!?!?!
HI,
I have a problem. I have a hole in my right rear tire, Uniroyal AWD blackwall. I had it plugged but the tire won't keep air. Next thing would be to have it patched but I'm worried about it becoming a safety issue while driving on the autobahn at 85 to 95mph.... Tires get really hot at 95 to 100mph... I’m afraid the patch won't hold and there goes my tire/life/truck... ???
I ask my father, in the states, to call around but no luck. I also called TIRERACK and they said 2 to 3 weeks since it's on backorder.... I could buy two new tires for the rear but I can't find anything in the 235x70r15 size on base but I haven’t checked the local German stores. buying tires on the local economy would cost more...
I found a 235x75r15 Michelin ATX from AAFES but will that fit? Is the ATX a good tire?
What is the max tire size for a stock S-10?? How high and how wide can I go?
What would you suggest I do??

Our stock tires (goodyear wrangler rts) are 205S load index / speed rating. An S speed rating is 112 MPH (180km/h). 85 - 95 mph shouldn't be a problem at all. I'm guessing that whoever plugged your tire did it wrong. And, an internal patch is MUCH safer and more reliable than a plug. Assuming of course this "hole" is in the tread and not the sidewall. Damaged sidewalls should not be patched or plugged. They should be disposed of.
As far as the size of replacement tires... yeah any brand 235/75/15 should fit.

Wow I googled about a dozen queries and I just can't locate any chains in Germany.
tyres1.com does however appear to be set up as an international supplier and can ship internationally according to their online order form.
Their contact page is here: https://www.tyres1.com/contact.html
Or
You could always try www.tirerack.com
or
www.discounttiredirect.com

UNIROYAL isn't sold in germany.... I'm going to try a patch and hope it holds. I'm also going to order a new tire from TIRERACK just incase. Living overseas can be nice but at times it can be a big pain in the A$$adrenalnjunky wrote:Wow I googled about a dozen queries and I just can't locate any chains in Germany.

The patch should work fine. Goto a local shop and let them do it. Those guys are #### over safety. If there is a problem they will let you know. But they will do a good job. It is acutally illegal to use a plug over there. It wont pass their inspection. I guess that you are military so you don't have to worry about that.
I lived over there for a year and a half about an hour south of you. I lived in Holzbron, which is a sub of Calw. Just south Stuttgart. I did an engineering apprenticeship over there so I know all about those guys being ####.

Yep, that's an "AT" tire. Does not look like one but def. has the traction of one. If you do want this tire, make sure you ask for the Bridgestone Dueller "REVO" AT as they still sell the normal looking Dueller AT tire which is not as good(but cheaper) than the REVO version.a2b wrote:is this the tire you have?Conman wrote:I've got the REVO ATs on my Trooper. Owning BFG tires before the REVO, I would def. say the REVO is just as good as the BFG, just a little cheaper and longer lasting(what I've been told so we will see).
I bought them last year when they just came out so there were not many reviews at Tirerack, but if you look now, there are alot of happy people with them so they can't be that bad.

Just to let you know how good traction this gets, I don't airdown when I drive on the beach. Snow, this was a great tire too over the winter. I def. recommend this tire.a2b wrote:is this the tire you have?Conman wrote:I've got the REVO ATs on my Trooper. They are good tires and quiet for an AT tire.
