Transmission filter replacement problems
Stupid question, do you have to remove the transmission cross member to remove the pan and filter? I have every bolt out of the pan and cannot find a way to get it out past the cross member.

I do not think you do but, I have heard it is quire a puzzle. I know that damage can be done if, forced. I have no personal experience but, I did read about it here.

I finally got it out. I was going to remove the cross member until I realized that I would need to remove my passenger side step bar (ZR5) to get at the head of the bolt. I ended up taking the nuts off of the transmission mount and gently raising the transmission until I was able to get the pan out. What were they thinking thanks for the reply and the link to the other thread. I may see if I can get all of the fluid replaced now.

As you have found the pan does come off. The crossmember does not have to be removed. It is much like a Chinese puzzle in that it will only come off one way.
Don't force it and for heavens sake don't use a pry bar. The solenoids on the back of the valve body can be easily damaged.
Use finesse and patience.
