Oil pan drain plug leaking!

well folks its been awhile I hope all is well with everyone! Well folks its not alot just a drip every other day! I'm going to start changing my own oil "I know putting on my big boy pants"! The places i have took it to I believe have damaged the threads on the drain plug. I was going to simply change the drain plug and see if that helps. If they have damaged the oil pan threads I will have to fix that. I have thought about getting a bigger drain plug that will re-cut threads in the oil pan. I have even thought about re-tapping the drain plug hole. If I retap / or recut new threads without dropping the drain pan i'm I not asking for trouble with aluminum shavings in my oil pan? Let me hear it fellas what do you recommend.

I picked up a liquid thread repair kit and new drain plug. That fixed up one old S-10. Be sure to use the GM rubber vulcanized o-ring drain plugs. I have found several aftermarket plugs less than acceptable. Bad rubber , or poor thread specifications.

Check the rubber seal on your drain plug since that can also cause a leak, but if you do have to fix the threads, HenryJ's suggestion is the best unless you want to drop the pan and recut the threads to a larger size.

Theres supposed to be a rubber seal? No wonder mine drips...

Could be worse, found out the hard way that the VW uses crush washers on the drain plugs. Every oil change they recommend changing the washer which if you dont, gets crushed so bad it cant be removed from the plug. I bought a pile of the drain plugs with washers from napa and just change the whole thing every other oil change. Saves me the headache.

GM makes an awesome drain plug seal. Steel washer with a vulcanized rubber interior. It can help any drain plug in need of assistance. The part number is around here some where....?
