Freeze Plug with Wire?

Post by sreynolds115 »

2001 S-10 Crew Cab leaking anti-freeze out of freeze plug. Located the leak on driver's side of block. It is a freeze plug with a wire running thru it. All the parts stores say they have never heard of freeze plug with wire. Anyone here ever heard of it?

Block heater. Brule will chime in.

That may be the engine block heater, if it is located in the left (driver side) rear position. Check your RPO code list for a K05.

Check out this thread: Engine block heater

Find another parts person to help you. I am not sure where you're located as your profile is not complete. Block heaters may not be common in your latitude?
Wires going into a freeze plug should have been a dead give away.

I guess you might not need a block heater in NC. It will be easier to replace it than to insert a freeze plug in its place though.

The glovebox does show a K05. Does this mean I have the cold weather package?

Read the thread I linked. Follow the links to the RPO code lists and decoders. Then you tell me ;)
