well i noticed today that my truck is leaking oil from behind the hormonic balancer could it just be a bad gasket

More likely a crankshaft seal. Make sure it is not an oil line or PS. Check the intake manifold too. It will leak down the front of the block.

What oil are you using?

Ok, I guess I need more information. The brand is not all that helpful

weight, base (example:5/30w synthetic)

I believe the oil pan gasket is one piece with the lower half of the crankshaft seal molded into it.

If you need a new gasket you will have to replace the whole thing.

The crankshaft sensor is also in that area, but I'm not sure if it can leak or not.
