ABS light and Transmission issue

Hello. i have a 2001 S10 Crew Cab.....love the truck. Last night on the way home my ABS light came on and it seems that I have grinding noise coming from my front end. I have had the truck for about 7 months and never had it in 4WD. The truck has 81,000 miles on it. Another issue I have been having is the transmission seems to slip and my rpms go up and down sometimes when I slow down in a curve and I am driving around 55- 60 mph. If I give it gas it seems to shift back in gear. Are these 2 issues related or has anyone had these problems??? I checked my brake fluid level and transmission level this morning and everything looked ok. The transmission issue has been going on for about 2 weeks. I know I probably need to have my transmission serviced. thanks...

I'm no "mechanic" but, maybe your brakes need lookin' over? :wink:

I've always believed that whether you use it or not, it's a good idea to engage the front end once a month or so. If for no other reason than to keep all the moving parts moving and well lubricated.

This is pretty common in slow turns around town about 15-20mph. Reprogramming shift points seems to have worked for some.

I think the post above nails it really well. I would add that suspecting a wheel bearing would be in order. The sensor and reluctor are internal to the wheel bearing assembly. A failing wheel bearing and the debris could set an ABS light.

Ok. Thanks. I was thinking wheel bearing, but didn't know it was attached to the ABS.....does someone have a write up on how to replace the wheel bearing?? I have done brakes before and other things. Is it too complicated or special tools needed?? Also, I am looking to buy new rims, probably stay 15 inch. Should I stay with 15 x 7 or go to 15 x 8 ?? What backspace?? I plan to add 1.25 spacers to the rear and keep the stock size tires for now. Again thanks.

We had the same problem on a K3500 at work. After following the service manual and replacing the ABS module, the next suggestion was the wiring harness. the wheel bearing wasn't suspect because it had been replaced about 6 months ago. It turned out to be the same bearing. Replaced, problem went away.
