Garmin Topo maps - How to load it? Ugh

Post by quickbiker »

I changed some CD and DVD players around in my computer, put in a new DVD writer and now I can't seem to figure out how to get my Garmin to load the Topo maps from DVD. Seems it doesn't even try. Anybody know.

Am guessing here since I have zero experience with DVDs other than watching them. Shouldn't you be able to start in through "run" and the drive's letter?

Actually I thought it was DVD, but it's just CD's, 3 of them. It's the only maps you gotta have the CD in to look at them and load them, kinda stupid. But I can't see them at all now, and when I select it from the Map Source App, it doesn't even ask to put it in, and it shows no map data. Ugh, how frustrating. :x

Try creating a folder on your desk top and copy them there via cut and paste. Sounds like they are a little like the GM SI data discs. I have a single mapsource CD program but, never thought to just have it on my hard drive. Wish I could help more. I can talk to a couple gurus tomorrow if needed. Does your PC see the new drives and assign a letter to them, Paul?

Yea, it sees them. Ha, I do computer stuff for a living and I just get so frustrated with stupid apps. When I select Topo maps, it has always asked me in the past to insert the CD, now it doesn't, it doesn't do anything. Just displays a blank map, no topo info and it seems happy. :x

Then ya got all these passwords and license key. Argh, probably can't remember them. Time to open source all this junk. I probably do that in a couple weeks, I'm off tomorrow morning for a few weeks work road trip. At least the street maps are working. :?

My topos didn't require sn/key. I'm running V.6

open Mapsource. In the upper left corner, under the File, eit, etc. bar there is a box that says US TOPO EAST with a pull down menu. Did you try re-selecting what mapset you want?

Good luck.

Yea, I was doing that. OK, I just fixed it. I uninstalled the Topo maps and re-installed it. Working fine now. Ugh.

And you have Ver 6??? I just got this thang, and I am running Ver 3.02 of Topo maps. Gee.
