well i finally pushed my crew to its limits.....i got stuck
went out wheelin' Friday night by myself (first mistake) to a two-track appropriatly named Budweiser (for the thousands of Buds drank out there, none by yours truly). Bud is a kind of circular two track that doubles back around for your muddin' convienence . long story short theres a huge hole that's been known to swallow fullsizes. actually when i got out to inspect it i found someones broken tow strap sitting by the edge...a bad omen that i ignored, lol. i decided to pass on the hole and go to a smaller one i knew i could make with ease. so i went and played around in this smaller hole in 2 wheel drive...didn't even need 4 wheel. i got bored with this hole fast and decided to go back around to the big hole to get a second look (second mistake).
looking it all over i started convincing myself i could make the outside edge.....so i lined up, put it in 4-hi, and dove in. the crew handled beautifully and walked right through the edge! so i went around lined up and blew through the edge again....no problems!! so into my big head creeps this idea of conquering the middle of the hole.....and i listen (third mistake).
So i lined up the middle track, and plunged in, was doing fine for the first 10 feet....then i felt the front end drop about a foot and i started slowing down...more gas more gas!!!! made it another 5 feet and came to a halt. tried reverse and backed up a little, went to drive went forward that same little, tried reverse and didnt move....."crap" i thought to myself. i rolled down my window and looked out to find my 33's were gone under water NOT GOOD!!!
eventually i called up my buddy and he came 45 minutes later and got me out. but what a sad day for my crew....my first stuck. don't have any pics from the hole but here's some from the next day.
lol, so a valuable lesson was learned.....if you're gonna wheel like the big boys......make sure there's some big boys with ya!
this is a shot of my roof
it finally happened, lol

Re: it finally happened, lol
This is the only way to learn. I've had mine completely stuck now 2 times, and I would estimate the stress caused by these incidents subtracted 10 years from my life. One of those times my CC and a friends Ford Explosion were stuck so bad that it took a full week, 5 friends, 4 come alongs, and a backhoe to get us out. We even tried one of those off road recovery guys, and he got stuck about halfway to where our trucks were in his 2 ton 4x4 tow truck that had swampers. I learned from that experience to always check and see what's ahead instead of just feeling indestructable and going for it.bwenny247 wrote:well i finally pushed my crew to its limits.....i got stuck

yeah....but it did keep the exhaust above the water line so i wasn't blowing bubbles
That thought crossed my mind
A good mod for people who are seeking the thrill of conquering mudholes. I guess I am permanently warped from having to drive off road five months a year (for 18 of my 26 years in federal service) for a pay check and avoiding being stuck
If I got hung up then it would stall several vehicles behind me. I would skirt the edge of a hole or use an alternate track. I do know what you're talking about with the evidence surrounding a mudhole. Tow straps, chains, trees scuffed up, piles of wood and rocks.
I wish I had a dollar for everytime I stopped and checked out a mudhole with poking for the bottom with a stick.
At least I know that I can depart this world knowing that a HMMVEE got so stuck following me in a Tahoe that a fullsize 4X4 farm tractor couldn't budge it, their duece and a half recovery truck couldn't get to it and only a dozer and chainsaw freed it
Ignore the fact that the kid driving it was from the inner city of Louisville and probably couldn't function without 2 zillion watts of "rap" blaring

after many years of wheeling in the guard.... you "always" have another vehicle with you when you go wheeling!!!!!!!
and reed..... i have gotten two hummers stuck at the same time!!!!! talk about a trick!!! it took an ammo carrier---a track vehicle--to pull us both out!!!
