Transmission Temperature Gauge

Transmission Temperature Gauge
Installing a transmission temperature gauge is not too bad since you can use the test port for the sender.
You will need a 7/16" or 11 mm wrench to remove the 1/8" NPT plug.
The plug is located just above the shift linkage-
A little thread lock to seal the threads and the sender screws right in-
I am mounting the digital gauge in a dual pod pillar mount. Still waiting on the gauge to arrive to complete the install. Perhaps this weekend.

I've thought about this mod since I installed my tranny cooler but, what does "NPT" stand for? I'm not being a smart_ss either (actually being sincere)
BTW, I thought it was very "artsy-craftsy" with the side by side lay out of the 7/16" and 11MM combination wrenches

Is this one from Autometer? I know they make a single and possibly a double gauge pod for the late model S10's. I have their triple pillar pod in my SS with their Phantom gauges. Stewart Warner Performance now has a pretty good selection of gauge pods too. Summit will be stocking them as well, according to their latest brochure.
I did not wish to modify my stock pillar cover, so I installed this by itself. I used a plastic insert in the pillar slot for screwing a sheetmetal screw into. The pillar is supported by two of these screws and they are covered with black plastic screw covers.

The upper one is a clock. My wife likes to be able to see a clock when we travel, and with the laptop up you can not see the radio's display.
It is kind of nice there , I will admit.
Next is to create a calibration tool for the digital trans temp gauge tommorrow

Well it is supposed to be accurate right out of the box.
Lots of stuff about good ground, manufacturers sender only , blah, blah.
I plan to devise a method of calibrating it, and yes I will have to use a "good" reading from another gauge.
My stock outside air temperature gauge has been really good. And I can use the other sources that I have to calibrate it hopefully. I have an IR temp gun, and a out door thermometer to help out.
If I can get it close cold, it should be ok. Or at least closer than it is now.
Right now the gauge is sealed, so I plan to add an external method of adjustment.

Summit. You will need to make sure the sender that you use is compatible with the gauge that you select.
If you want to use digital gauges, I think that I would try Cyberdyne , or Dakota digital next time. I am not overly impressed with the Nordsdog gauges.
EDIT: Thanks for bringing this back up Upon further review I am going to try the Dakota Digital gauges. The blue readout should better match the stock gauges. The trans temp gauge reads from 0 , instead of 100 and the fuel gauge is adjustable for the size of the tank.

Yes. I made the switch to Dakota Digital gauges. It has been working just fine. Theses gauges are a good choice for digital.
