Wheel making weird sound
Ever since we put in a 2inch body, and 33s on our truck, the front driverside wheel has been making this annoying vibrating sound. Does anyone esle have this problem. My boyfriend has taken off the wheel and played with a couple of things, then it goes away for about 2 days and comes back. Anyone with help for me, would be great..
thanks,
annie

What did he play with that makes it go away for a couple of days?Neal&Annie wrote:My boyfriend has taken off the wheel and played with a couple of things, then it goes away for about 2 days and comes back.

Hi all, this is the boyfriend going nuts with the noise. I did the body lift, gap guards, and rim/tires at the same time. Shortly after, i started getting a tinny sound just like an old heat shield on an exhaust, so I checked over all the brake lines, shields, etc and found zip. The noise comes in at certain spds, regardless of accelerating, slowing taking it out of gear, and i finally narrowed it down to the front left wheel area. I took the wheel off and inspected brake assembly, lines, inner fender well, and gap guard. Gap guard seemed to make similiar sound when i played with it, lifting and releasing against well, so i added some screws and also torqued the wheel down properly. The noise was gone only to rear its ugly head within a couple days or so, Im sorry the original info was a little to broad, but my girlfriend [she drives the truck] was trying to help and probably annoyed with it and didnt know all the specs at the time.

I dont know if this is the case but as soon as we put on my new wheels my truck made a bad scraping sound, and it was because my new wheels mounting flange was much bigger and it rubbed on the caliper bracket.
Jack up that tire and spin the wheel and see if you can hear the scraping or other noises from spinning it.

Try swapping that front wheel with a rear one and see if the sound is the same, or goes away. This will at least eliminate a possible tire and or rim problem, and you can move on from there. You also might want to take off that front gap guard for a couple days and see if the problem still comes back.

Thanks guys, i made a couple changes this weekend. I added a shackle lift to the rear and I moved the front left gap guard a touch, annie says she hasn't heard it but we shall see. If icomes back i wiil definetly try the suggestions. Im wondering if lifting the rear changes the way the air goes over everything in the front due to a different angle and that may have been what was causing the noise. Not that this fixed it but would be nice to know what it was.
