Airbox Mod relived
Yep. I got the mod "itch" again and chopped up my airbox. My Butt-O-Meter says that it made a difference (that's with a Fram air filter). Gotta love my hacksaw! Do ya'll think switching to a regular K&N filter would boost performance?

Happen to have a pic of exactly where you cut. I want my butt-o-meter to tell me things too.

Well, it's on the mods page, but, to be honest, the "after" pic is kinda weird. Unhook the intake hose (like you're changing the air filter), pull out the air fliter, unscrew the nut on the right side of the airbox, then pop out the two little plastic "pop in thingees" (that IS the technical term) that hold the front of the box to a plastic mount. When you get the box out, just try and visualize what the heat shield looks like on a K&N FIPK or AEM intake (the left and the rear sides of the intake) and cut out the front, bottom, and right sides, leaving enough room at the top of the box for the depth of the air filter. It's kinda hard to visualize, but there you have it. When my butt tells me things, they usually stink.....................

Re: Airbox Mod relived
Yes, the K&N will make a difference with the air box mod. This is exactly what I did, and I noticed a big improvement in throttle response and power. I also love the sound it makes when at WOT.NTXCrew wrote:Yep. I got the mod "itch" again and chopped up my airbox. My Butt-O-Meter says that it made a difference (that's with a Fram air filter). K&N FIPK Gen 2
I've seen that many of you have gone with the standard K&N filter and those that are adventurous also did the swiss cheese airbox. I was wondering if anyone has tried the K&N FIPK Gen 2 or the Volant

and here is the HP curve

There is also another brand called Volant that replaces the filter and stock airbox.

I'd like to hear what everyone has to say, personally, I'm a fan of the FIPK because it has the advantages of the air box mod yet it is reversable for dealer "inspections"

Re: K&N FIPK Gen 2
Oh yeah. Do a search for those terms and you will get volumes of past threads. The FIPK is great.ludwis wrote:I've seen that many of you have gone with the standard K&N filter and those that are adventurous also did the swiss cheese airbox.
