I have been looking for a tent system that will work with our trucks, I found a company that makes a roof rack tent, for around 1,000. I found a couple of guys that build their own. Here is a link to a nicely done roof rack tent. http://forums.offroadtb.com/viewtopic.php?t=2008
I was thinking of trying to create something similar for my crew cab, but instead of it being mounted to the roof, mount it to my folding hard top bed cover, that way it won't be as high in the air and I can still keep my roof rack loaded with gear. I just threw out the most perfect canvas army style tent from the late 70's last week, then of course I find a DIY roof tent that requires a donor tent to make. Duh!
Looks ok. Needs a rain fly to reduce the condensation and some peak venting though. I speak from experience!
