I just got my 2003 S10 ZR5. I would like to raise it to the same height as the ZR2 is. I have looked through a lot of stuff here and really don't know what most of it means. Like crank the torque for height. Or body lifts over other types of lifts. I would be happy to read on this if you all have more info. I have already removed the stock bed liner and had it painted with SuperLiner. My ARE LSII tonneau cover with gull wing will be here in a few days. I had the cover painted the same yellow as the truck and the gull wing done in satin black. Just having fun. So I am open to suggestions.

feel free to post any question without being flamed here. you kind of asked alot, i would suggest checkind the mod section on the main page of crewcab.2ya.com out for info on cranking tbars and body lifts, also, you can use the search function on this forum and pull up tons of info on body lifts and more stuff.

On the CV joint subject. I am going to raise the front 2 inches with the torsion bars. Lots of discussions on premature failures of the CV joints. Is their any facts to this. Like a year or two is all they will last. 98% of my driving will be highway driving. I am just trying to get a feeling for it. Also on the rear I will probably add the leafs from Boise.

Originally I went to a body shop here and they wanted $1500 to raise it a couple of inches. I just want it up like the ZR2.

Well, you can do the 2" body lift for $180 plus 10-12 hours of your own time. But it still will not quite look like a ZR2. You'd have to do the 5" suspension lift to get to that. Plus add the rear wheel spacers. I'm running 1.75" rear wheel spacers.

Adjusting (reindexing) your t-bars to raise the front will accelerate wear to your CV joints and boots, plus the ball joints. The larger the angle from your fixed axle, the higher the rate of wear. The best case to minimize wear is to have your CV axles completely level with the ground. To do that you'd have to add the Trailmaster lift (that drops your entire front axle assembly and suspension) but adjust your t-bars for less than the maximum.

This is kind of moot since the ball joints are rather poor anyway, both by design and quality.

I would say don't plan on more than 1"-1.5" raise by cranking the torsion bars, for best performance.

Go with the PA #192 Body Lift. Hands down the easiest way to get enough lift to sit as high as the Zr2s.

So lets figure a budget:

2" BL - $200

2" Boise springworks kit - $150

TB crank and frontend re-alignment - $50

Rear spacers - $110

31x10.5/15 tires - $450

Total - $960 Sitting as high as a Zr2.....priceless

I'd do the BL first.

Then tires , TB crank and spring kit, immediately followed by the alignment.

OH, one thing I forgot! HPPIII to recalibrate the speedometer and firm up the mushy shifts- $350. Or you can go to a dealer and have the speedometer set.

The problem with mods is that it becomes a chain reaction. One leads to another, which makes it necessary to do another, etc.

Take a close look at how you can raise your Zr5 step bars after a body lift. I'm not aware of anyone who has done that yet.

You can always do the TB crank, rear spring kit, and alignment first too. Then do the BL , then tires.

Either way the first step up is about $200

all based on your opinion.. Some guys notice their trucks sagging quite a bit in the rear. Measure from the center of all wheels to the bottom of the fender. Then decide what to do from there and how much lift you want. I opted for the body lift, no tbar crank and 31's. Right next to a zr2, Veronica sits about 1-1.5" lower

At least with Bob Lutz in charge of Product Operations, GM is actually taking some of it's more cutting-edge vehicles to market. Personally i think he has the right Ideas when it comes to brand association -- I wouldnt be surprised to see some of these Show vehicles start lending strong influences to future vehicles.

A question to HenryJ. I am trying to get molding for the side like you have on yours to stop door dings. Of course mine will be painted yellow to match the paint. I went down to the body shop today and they asked if I could get your VIN number to order the right thing. Hope that is possible. You can email it to me privately if you wish.

Mmmm, like the rumer about an H4 to compeat with the Wrangler? Could it be Solid f/r axles? That's the only way I can see it competing. We will see.

This is one of the greatest forums I have seen in a long time. Self righteousness is out helpfulness is in. I can't offer any truck help yet as I am learning as I go. Mostly from this forum. also, check and see what gears you have before switching tires. if you have 3.42's i wouldnt suggest 31's
