Camera recommendations (for truck pics)
This is truck related, believe it or not.
I'm tired of being behind the times and not having a digital camera. I have to keep borrowing the old Sony Mavica (uses floppies) at work to shoot pics of my Crew.
Who has experience with which (late model) ones? What is your favorite "truck" digital camera? I'm looking to buy this weekend....

My buddies love their Sony but I like my Fuji camera. Really any that are 2 megapix or better is fine for normal use. I like the FujiFilm better cause it has a powerfull flash for taking pics under the vehicles. Some reason the Sony's have a weak built in flash(but lots of them you can add in 35mm type external flashes). Cnet.com is a good place to start for looking for one.
Mine is a FujiFilm FinePix 2300 and is a 2.1mega pix. It uses SmartMedia which is going out of style. I would probably recommend a camera that takes the "SD" memory chips as those can hold more pics than the SmartMedia.
If I got a camera today, I would look at one with 3 mega pix, optical zoom(mine only has digital zoom), and can take short video pics(mine does not). I have no brand pref. so your on your own on that.

Nikon Coolpix 3100. Got it for my wifey and it is the greatest camera. Actually was voted the best in some magazine. I didn't know till after I bought it though. I am partial to Nikons, but I think this is there best all around camara yet. And it is very compact.
I'm still using my old Nikon Coolpix 700. Had it for over 4 years now and still going strong, even after dropping it alot of times. And I still like the quality of the pics believe it or not.

My father-in-law has a Canon G4. 4 megapixel...NICE!!! But Canon just came out with a digital Rebel (6.7 something megapixel) and he said a G5 is coming out, so you may be able to get one of these real cheap soon. I'd wait until Christmas sales hit or after the holidays if you're trying to be budget friendly.

I have the a40 like brule and am pretty pleased. 2.0 megapixels is good and moderately priced. I bought mine right after xmas as an open box item...it was never used. Got it for $200, a battery charger with 4 batteries $60, and a 128MB card for $25 .It really depends on what you will be using your camera for....It's nice to have the best stuff but if you are only going to take 5-10 pix a week...don;t spend mroe than $400

I'm shooting for $300 for camera, plus big memory card. I can use it for work as well doing IAQ studies and reports.Justin wrote:...don;t spend mroe than $400

The Nikon 3100 Coolpix is one I am considering. A friend just got one and it is sweet, and small. Probably down to that one, the Canon PowerShot A70, HP 735, or a Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-P72 . My TV will accept the Sony memory card directly. All are over 3.0 MP

OK. Hobie can stop pestering me for pics now.
About a week ago, I bought the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-P72. 3.2 mega pixels, 3x optical zoom and 3x digital zoom. Also does MPEGs at 2 resolution levels with sound. MPEG time length is limited only by the size of the installed memory. Speaking of which, it came with a 16mb memory stick, but I bought a 128mb also. And the Sony kit with case, extra pair of Ni-MH batteries, fast charger, etc.
Now if I could only figure out how to get the darn pics out of it......

I got it going. Just load the USB driver, plug in the camera, and it sees it as removable disk E:. Pretty cool and easy. Very nice pics even on "low" 1.0 mp resolution. They are 550kb even at that resolution. I'd hate to see the size of them at 3.2mp. I will update my photo pages.
