General Grabber AT2 vs Yokohama Geolander AT/S

Need new tires and would like you guys opinion on General Grabber AT2 vs Yokohama Geolander AT/S.

I'm replacing Michelin LTXs. I have 70k on the Michelins, looking for something less expensive, more aggressive looking and long wearing.

Yokohama is a good tire. If you are on the street lots, its tread design may offer better performance and fuel mileage. Offroad looks like it might suffer. It has a 50k Miles warranty.

The General looks like a copy of the BFG AT. I like the tread design for a good all terrain tire. The interlocking "peanut" design is a good one that has been around a very long time. It shows a 60k tread. More aggressive than the Yoko, I suspect fuel mileage will suffer.

No experience first hand with either.

That was my take as well. If I go Yoko I'll likely scale back to the HT/S it's closer to the Michelin LTXs and 10k more tread wear than the Yoko AT/S.

The Yokohama Geolanders are good tires. They were on most of our highway/off highway trucks in the rock quarry where I used to work. Goodyear MT/R were used on the off highway only trucks. The Geolanders weren't great in the mud, but they did do good in the sharp rocks, rain, and highway mileage was decent. I would use them!

Which Yokos did you buy? You were looking for primarily a good road tire, correct? Gotta link to the specs?
Where did you buy them? How much $$?

I got the Yokohama Geolander HT/S. Yes primarily road use, But they will see some beach driving and some off road use. No rock crawling though.

I got them at Town Fair Tire in Everett, MA.
Four tires mount, balance, valve stems, disposal and tax $539.59 out the door.

It took some work to get them down to that price. Thr tires started out at $136 each. I eventuall paid $108.00 each.

I'm off to do a little TLC on the rig.

That price is VERY good!
What size tire did you get? What size wheels are you running?

Those should offer good road performance and excellent wet traction.

Do you air down for beach driving?

It is a good price, same as Tire Rack w/o the postage.

I have stock ZR5 wheels with stock 235/75 R15s on them.

I do air down to about 10psi. That pressure is actually required at Cape Cod National Sea Shore. The NSS even provides air compressor for inflating tires in the parking area between the north and south access areas at Race Point.

Not always true. Mine is 3.42 ratio non govloc and came stock new with 235x75x15 tires.

You are right. The optional offroad tires were indeed available alone. They were also part of an RPO sales package that included the locker and gears. Mine was ordered that way in 2001. Later years they started breaking out all the options.
I could be wrong, but it is my understanding that the G80 and the 3.73 gears were a package that was not available separately.

Anyone tried Hankook Dynapros?

I have them installed on my rig. Best tires I have ever owned. I have over 35K on them and they still look new. Very grippy and tough as nails. Perfect balance between off and and on road. I highly recommend them. Plus they look pretty good.
