What kinds of jacks will lift the body off the frame?

Post by nebby58 »

I can't find a place where I can rent a hydraulic jack, so I was wondering what other kinds of jacks I can use to lift the body off of the frame. I was thinking a bottle jack because it is cheap, but I was unsure if it would work for this job.

Or a floor jack and a 2x4. If you don't have a jack, the floor jack will be more useful for other projects. I used a floor jack when I did the BL on my CC. You only need to lift the body high enough to slide the new spacers in. To keep everything lined up, only do one side at a time. Floor jacks are also more stable and have a higher lift than a cheap bottle jack.

I have run into a snag. It is telling me that I need to remove the vent hose from the clip that is holding it, but I can't see how to do it and the customer service is closed for the weekend. Anyone know what to do?

Vent hose to what? There are several.

I figured it out. These instructions are incredibly vague. I have an aftermarket air intake. Do I have to remove that all? I have taken off the housing. I was just wondering why it is necessary to remove all of these items inside of the hood. What does removing the brake lines have to do with lifting the vehical. I'm trying to follow these instructions, but this scares me a little.

What kind of intake? You will likely need to allow any brackets it might have adjust for the body being raised.

You don't remove brake lines, you remove brackets that hold them and prevent the body from being lifted.

Now you are starting to see why we suggested reading the posts others have made on their lift experiences and printing out the PDF files for both kits. The BDS instructions have pictures and steps missing from the PA sheets.

Think it through and use good judgement. A2B really messed his truck up doing the lift. After the wrecker bill, and the dealership repairs, he could have had the kit installed professionally , twice

It is a spectre CAI. What does the positive cable terminal box look like? The instructions don't show it very good. What is a good thread on this? I have searched for this and could not find anything that answered my questions. BTW I my crewcab t shirt and waterbottle just came in from cafe press. Just in time to be used during the lift! :)

I'm not familiar with how the bracket holds the tube on that one. Once the lift is done you should be able to adjust it to fit.

Take both battery cables loose. After the lift a little rerouting may be required to get them to fit again. The battery will be out to move the actuator, so both cables loose is a given.

I have a 2001. I don't know if that makes a difference or not, but can I get away with not moving the actuator or the fuel lines? I read on other threads that there was enough slack not to do that. Do the wires that hold the positive box need to be grounded to the frame, or can I unbolt all of the bolt to give the positive cable more slack?

Mine was a 2001. Read the directions both of them. Read the thread. Trans lines and brake lines, not fuel.

Does anyone know about the two oil cooler lines and where they are located?

Engine: Left side of the engine to the oil filter and cooler

Tranmission: Right side of the oil pan rail , toward the front there is a bracket that must be relieved.

Yep. I got some liquid wrench I am soaking it down with right now and a pipe on the end of my wrench.

Careful not to twist them off. Sometimes and impact wrench will break them loose if they are REALLY stuck.
Be sure to use a six point socket to prevent round off corners too.

Thanks for the advice, but it is in the shop right now. I was almost done with assembly until it ran into those bolts. My tool supply is scarce, so it was probably best to have someone finish the job. They are also going to crank the T bar and put dual glasspacks on too.
