horsepower talk

Post by Justin »

Now that I have found that I have a 3.42 rear end, I am wondering roughly how much hp is required to at have at least overdrive pull the truck through uphill. I have a feeling this may be a weakness when going to sell the truck. I still want to keep it somewhat able to be worked on under warranty

perhaps computer chip, intake, any other suggestions? I know a full 4.10 rear and front end change is around a grand so im hoping mods won't be more

I'm actually surprised, with all of the mods you have listed in your signature, that you don't already have a K&N FPIK. In combo with your exhaust and maybe even HPIII running 93 octane, I would think you'd see a difference. I don't know how much a new camshaft would run, but you might check into that or some electrical components from MSD, or lower thermostat. Then again, I can't speak from experience because I haven't done any of that. :D

Only way is to change the shift points with the hpp3. I got like -13 programed or something like that for my 3-4 shift and works great. But then I got 3.73 and 31's. I think 4.10's may be the best route like Hobbie did. but the hpp3 may be a good interim fix. I would think the intake would only make high rpm power increase. Probably would not notice a difference at highway speeds in overdrive.

That's what I've heard. Will it help overall throttle response, too?

No. I think our trucks have excellent throttle response. Won't ever come close to a carberator, but got good response with mulitport injection IMO.

I got a chance to drive a crew cab Tacoma on my current trip, and I sure do apreciate my Chevy. The Tocoma has terible response and only produces good power at red line, sucks for what is needed in a truck. And the seats are as hard as a rock. It also feels way to heavy. And with just a little load in it, I was riding the axle on the bumps stops!

Driving that truck, I feel like: :puke:

buddy of mine had a 2001 Taco Crew cab -- TRD package with everything but Posi -- his was the same way -- little bit of a load and the truck was sagging bad.

It's a 2002. Got all the goody packages on it, big tires, even got a selectable locker button. I couldn't find anything challanging enough to put it to the test, but I just may yet! I guess it's gotta have that, cause it doesn't seem like the rear has much travel or flex, and of course the front don't have any cause of ifs.

Depends on the driver more than anything.
