For Brule or anyone else that knows more about this than me which would be most everybody.
Posted here because my question refers to a 96 vortec 350.
The Scangauge II says it will monitor Knock Retard. Is this the same as Cam retard? Can the Scangauge II be used to reset the timing after the distributor has been pulled? Should this also be done on our 4.3 crewcabs?

No Knock retard reduces the total ignition timing. Cam retard is measured between the crankshaft and cam shaft. The Scangauge II says it will monitor Knock Retard. Is this the same as Cam retard?
I don't belive it will as I do not know what parameters would need to be programmed. It might be possible, but I don't know how. This is referred to as phasing the distributor. I know Autotap software can do it , as that is what I use. This would be a good question for the ScanguageII techs. Can the Scangauge II be used to reset the timing after the distributor has been pulled?
No. Our distributors are locked. No adjustment available.Should this also be done on our 4.3 crewcabs?
