Question 'bout IAT relocate
Concerning the article on relocating the IAT at:

Using my stock air box (front end cut out, of course)...so I'm wondering if I should place the IAT before or after the air filter???
The instructions that came with the kit shows that you are supposed
to place the IAT before the air filter.
Seems like that could eventually cause some crap to get up into the sensor and clog it up or even ruin it.
So, does it really matter that much where this is located?

I drilled mine and inserted it into the lid, so after the filter. The sensor really is durable, unlike the resistors in the MAFS. It can be cleaned a little more aggressively.
I now run the K&N with it as pictured in that write-up.

Think there would be any benefit at all to locating it before the air filter?
When I first heard of this, I always assumed you'd want the sensor after
the air filter to protect it, but the pictures shown in the instructions show
that you're supposed to place it before.
Anyway, I figured putting it in the lid would work best,
if for no other reason but to protect the sensor.

What ever works for you. My placement on the system I have now matches the outside temperature very closely. Much better than the stock location did.

Since I'm still using the stock style air filter, in the OE air box (with front cut out)...I may try locating it before the air filter if I can rig up some sort of shield to help keep debris off of the sensor.
Of course, that may be a waste of time
but it would get cooler air on the sensor.

I would just do it after the filter. Better safe than sorry. Only be reading a couple degrees cooler if that, is it worth the few dollars of a new sensor and hassle to replace?

Yeah, that was my first impression was that it would be better to have it behind the air filter so the sensor would be protected better than if it were in front.
That's what I'll go ahead and do.
I just thought I'd ask since the instructions showed that it was OK to put it in front of the air filter.
I guess that goes to show ya that following instructions may or may not be the best thing to do.

We had a member (I can't remember who) placed the sensor right up against the radiator support without problems. It is pretty sturdy and not all that expensive. If, I was doing this with a stock air box I would place mine in the box one the intake side of the filter.
