Well with rumors of gas going as high as $3 a gallon for daily driven vehicles this year, I dusted off the bike.
I didn't realize how long it has been since I have had it out. (almost five years) . Still under 10k miles not bad for a 20 year old bike.
This is the first vehicle that I ever bought new. It was a "hold over" 1984. I bought it in early 1985 for $2800 and traded in my Honda CB 550 twin. I think new price was around $3600.
Honda's V65 Sabre was the fastest production bike when it came out. It has a 1100cc 121 hp V-4, 0-50 in 2.31 seconds and does the quartermile running in the mid 10's. It is a rush to ride.
If I remember correctly it got around 36 mpg, city and a best of 50 mpg highway. Exactly what is needed with these gas prices.

j/k I have my mustang which is a gas hog .. I havent figured what gas mileage would be cause I dont want to know.. I do know that if I fill it up it last me 4 weeks .. work is 1 mile from my house.. and its a 15 gallon tank I think.. The wie uses the truck to go to work and her work is 1/4 mile from the house..

Wow, that's a gas hog. I think the worst tank I've got on my Suzuki was atleast 60MPG+. LOL Granted I have about 100 less HP than yours though. I'm still driving my Crew but I do own one of those Electric Scooters but there is no place for me to keep it safe at the train station parking. Gas is "only" 1.87 for 87oct. here in NY so it's not bad yet. Worse case is to bike(pedal that is) to the commuter station but I've seen some messed up pedal bikes there so maybe I have to walk the 1.3miles or have my wife drop me off on the way to work.
If things get really bad(gas over $2.50 here), I would buy a moped since those could get way over 100+ MPG plus still have the option to pedal. Seen a few of those mopeds on the net for like 700bucks shipped.
IMHO I don't see it hitting that mark too long since this is an election year so there will be some magical relief when it gets to that point anyway.
Might have to rethink the lift kit to save on gas..........

2.2 Auto w/ 35 psi in the tires even in town it's hard not to get 20 MPG. With the tonneau & ZQ8 springs it gets 28 MPG on the highway.
My wife's car
97 Audi A6 Quattro 2.8 172HP V6 Auto it gets 18-26MPG & is as smooth as a 12cyl. Jag

Gas was only $1.63 a gallon around the corner from our new place in Indiana. I hope it stays that way. It's already over $2 a gallon here in Phoenix. Just another reason I'm glad to be moving.

Just the crew for me I'm actualy trying to get something with worse mileage. A 92 xcab toy with 4" S/L and 3" B/L 35" MTR's gets about 12mpg on the highway
I'm driving a '89 Grand Am w/ 2.5L 4 banger and auto that is a hand me down from the wife. The odometer broke at 97K miles so I don't have a clue about the gas mileage but I figure it's got to be better than the Crew Cab!

Looks like one heck of a spring lift, or is that a body lift?
Those fenders look a little small too. Is there any rubbing during articulation? mileage probably really suffers offroad?

Just filled up the bike, 63MPG pretty much all city type driving. Wonder if I can break 70MPG all cruising speeds. Did have to buy a new battery(80bucks) though and I'm eyeing a new helmet(Arai XD at about 500bucks and I need a riding jacket($$$)...... so no savings but like you said, fun!
BTW, my Avalanche is getting better MPG than my Trooper even though the trooper's rating is 1mpg better than the AV. Go Figure.

Gas is still in the mid $1.80 range here (the last time I looked anyway) but it's slowly creeping back up. I went back to driving my crew because the struts and shocks on my Grand Am are so bad it was making me "sea sick" to drive it. I guess I need to replace them but since I'm staying home these days and driving only very short distances, the difference in gas mileage really doesn't matter that much anymore. That and being on one income, I can't really afford to replace the struts and shocks anyway.
I bought a 1999 hyndai elantra for 3 grand.. it runs like a champ and looks decent.. It runs circles for gas milleage around the cc

The price of gas is down about $0.15 a gallon to $2.11 and I gripe about the cost but I bought the vehicles to drive em. I just can't figure out why all the refineries shut down for maintenance during peak driving periods . Seems to me its some form of legal price gouging .
The sad fact is I am already conditioned to think its a good deal for gas to be under $2.00

Best that I can remember paying personally is .45 cents a gallon for lawnmower gas. I then charged $2 to mow a lawn. That was a high price job back then for a grade schooler
BTW: I'm pretty sure that I thought .45 cents was highway robbery at the time!

I know what you mean for the longest time gas price and octane corelated when I first began to drive. I ran 88 octane regular ( with lead) for 88 cents in my first truck

well from Aug. 1 thru Aug. 31 the gas is $.08 cheaper for gas in the state of Florida, some people ran a potition to the state commissioners and they passed a bill for all gas stations to lower the pfice of fuel $.08 for 1 month - I just filed up tonight and reg cost $1.77, plus $1.87 and pre. $1.97, and of course I shoped around a different stations, one across the street has pre. for $2.03

I see everyone here is talking about $3 a gallon gas prices. Here in CA we are talking about seeing $4 a gallon soon. I filled up my SS yesterday for a grand total of $68. Today I got $48 in the CC. Here are my choices for gas savings.
1996 Impala SS 20-24 mpg
2001 S10 CC 16-19 mpg
1988 S10 Blazer 15-18 mpg
I just picked up a 2000 Toyota MR2 Spyder with 60k on it for $9000. I was spending $480/mo on gas for the CC. The payment on the Toyota is $200 and it gets 36mpg which cuts my gas bill in half every week. So bacically I ended up getting a convertable for free. Plus its a pretty fun car to drive. I use the CC for trips to the home improvment store and for camping/biking and winter.

We took an almost 300 mile round trip on Easter. I filled it the next morning and figured the mileage and it was almost 19mpg. I didn't think that was too bad considering it had 652 miles on it when we left the driveway! I'm excited to see how it does after getting a few thousand miles on it. I know it's never going to be an economy car but for having a 300 hp V8, 4wd etc I didn't think it was too bad.

19 mpg is pretty good for a heavy SUV! Your truck is very tight right now, so in theory you should get better gas mileage as the engine and tranny loosen up which will free up more power. I would switch to a good 5w-30 or 10w-30 synthetic oil like Mobil 1 after about 5k miles to keep the engine happy for a long time.
Yeah, I thought it was! I wasn't babying it either. I did a couple runs to 90 when passing and ran around 70 most of the way.
I plan on doing synthetic. I always do the first oil change at 1k, then at 3k then at 6k I switch to Mobil 1 and then change every 5-6k after that. We'll be making a 1300 mile round trip to Wisconsin in June so I'm excited to see how it does on that trip. My Bonne could almost make it one way on a single tank (30+mpg), I know that won't be the case with the TB though!!!

1999 Blazer 4door 4x4 90,000miles , Just got a tune-up , 32psi in the stock tires , 3.73 gears , all stock .
And i get a whopping 14MPG ( up from 12mpg before tune-up )
Iam spending about $240-$270 per month just on gas
Price for 87oct here in Vancouver Canada is hitting $1.18 Per LITER ! mulitply that by 3.78lts per gallon = $4.46 Candian per gallon : After conversion to USDollars = $ 3.94
I think that is correct buy correct me if i am wrong .
Last summer I was paying $1.20 per Litre , it is only April now ! "people" are predicting that prices will hit $1.50 per Liter this summer around here .

Last fall I picked up a 1991 honda CRX si with 150,000 miles for $500. It has hail damage on every body pannel but gets 38 mph when im nice to it and 35 when i beat the crap out of it around town. I usually get about 35.
I guess I could be driving my 1964 Implala. It has a 283 with a 3 on the tree and an over drive unit behind the standard. It will get about 24 on the highway. To bad I only drive it a few hundred miles a year.

I tried out a mid seventies K1500 that had a 3 on the tree in it way back when. I thought it was strange to find one like that on a dealers lot at that time. It was a chore to get the thing started without slipping the clutch a lot. Glad I didn't buy it, I don't think I could have afforded to keep clutches in it.

I to remember early 80 pickups having 3 speeds on the column. I think that it may have still been an option on the 79 Malibu’s. I think the very base car was a 6 cylinder with a 3 speed.
Although I do have everyone beat so far. With the ‘add on’ over drive unit on the 64, I actually have a 6 speed on the column. It is possible to run up 1st gear, then shift to 1 gear over drive, drop it out of over drive on the way to second and then shift to 2nd gear over drive etc. Thus giving you 6 forward gear ratio’s. This takes a good deal of hand foot coordination, as the switch to lock it in over drive is on the dash on same side as the shifter. The 0 to 60 time is much greater running all 6 gears just because the ratios are not really setup for it and the time to shift is greatly increased. If I have to turn off the bright headlights in the middle…. All hope is lost.

I think Ford had it up into the 90's. They did the total redesign on the Econoline for 1992. The previous body went back to 1975 or 76 and they had the dimmer on the wheel well hump. The F-150s got a new front end in 1992 and revised dash and may have gotten the stalk mount dimmer at that time also.

Another two years have passed and now I am looking at $4 per gallon gas.
I dusted off the bike , fired it up and ordered new tires for it. The front has tread, but is showing signs of dry rot cracking. The rear has very little tread and is also showing its age.
I could not find the same size I was running, so I went a little shorter all around. The rear will have to be a little wider. I am going with radials this time as I read a good review on the performance for my V65 Sabre.
Today the weather was nice. It should shape up comfortably in a week or so. That will be about when I get the bike shod and ready for riding.

I am counting on a pic of you and the bike Right now the CC is the least driven. That is only because my CC has a battery cutoff switch. I drive the XJ just to keep it charged up once or twice a week and to show the for sale signs. The Jeep Rubi gets 16-17 mpg in town with an all stock set up (stock for me. PO added a tb spacer and CAI)and I drive it the most. Wife's Cavalier needs driven so I drive it when it is dark and there is a better chance of going undiscovered in it. My CC's mpg avg is horrid and I need to get that solved long before MOAB. It is so bad that I can't do the math to place it accurately. I know that I wrote all of my mileage and fill ups down on the ZR2USA meet last Aug but, just quick calculations made me toss out the notes.
I am thinking barely over 11mpg! No way the cargo rack and lights can do that. I have tried everything but, I do not have time to readdress the problem just now. I had a few 20 mpg tanks under my belt before most of the mods.

I believe that your emissions system is covered for 8 yr 80k miles. Maybe more. If you have a problem, you could possibly get it replaced under the factory warranty.
Diagnosis is difficult without cutting it off to take a look. Pressure tests can give an indication, but are somewhat left up to the skill and interpretation of the tester.

Looking for a vehicle that gets better MPG for my daily commute. I am getting 17.85MPG in the crew and at 3.80/gal 300 miles a week is killing me. Problem is finding something with better mileage that I can fit in. A Geo Tracker that I can rip out the rear seat and move the drivers seat might be a possibility if I can find one at a decent price.

Perhaps a Buick LeSabre or Park Avenue with 3.8L non turbo V6? That's what the wife's driving right now and averages 20-25mpg all short driving and up to 30-35 all highway. Plenty of room in it also. Just a thought for ya.

Yea for a car I was looking on line and there is a 2000 Chevy Impala for $3988 listed locally estimated 20-32MPG I can drive them but it's not fun. Problem is most of my hight and size issues are upper body. I am tall in the torso and wear a 62 suit coat so shoulder room and head room are the big issues. With most cars the steep slant of the windshield means I am looking through the top 3 inches or so and fell like I have to be half a block back to see a traffic light. With that price I could have a monthly payment that equals a weeks gas in the crew. If it actually got 32MPG highway it could save me as much as $50/month.
