Post by bradjh »

Okay the past few days when it has been cold inoticed a whooshing sound when ever i turn left or right. It sounds like water is in the dashboard like behind the glove box. I keep looking on the passanger side floor expecting to see water but nothing yet? any ideas? Brad

Have you replaced the Dexcool with the green stuff? It sounds like you have air pockets passing through the heater core. Air + Dexcool = BAD. You should drain out the Dexcool immediately before the Dexcool destroys your core. It ruined mine.

Dex cool isn't green, I think it's a orangeish color. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Get one of those Prestone (or similar) flush kits that attach to one of the heater hoses and thoroughly flush out all that orange Dex-Cool.

After flushing out the old stuff, drain the remaining water out of the block by unscrewing the block drain plug.

Don't forget to put that plug back in.

I recommend filling the system with water and a bottle of cooling system cleaner and running it for a few hours or one day to help get all the bad stuff out before you fill it up with new coolant.

If you decide to do this step you will have to flush the system one more time to get the cleaner out.

Fill with standard green coolant like Prestone (not the extended life coolant) and distilled water.

The ratio of water to coolant depends on your climate, however a 50/50 mix for winter works pretty good for most people.

You could also add a bottle of Redline Water Wetter to help improve heat transfer.
