Lift shackles or blocks?

I'm looking to do a 4 inch lift, 2" body and 2" shackles or blocks. Which are more stable? I know shackles create a lot of flex and are illegal in some states but maybe it doesnt matter on the rear?

The only thing you're going to be able to do there would be the 2 inch body lift and 2 inch shackles on the rear. On the front, you can turn the torsion bars to get it to raise up, but when you do that you run the risk of wearing out the front end components pretty quickly if you turn it too much. Here's a picture of my setup with a 2" body lift and 2" shackles and 30" tires. I never bothered to turn the torsion bars. But overall with the added lift of the bigger tires and the body lift, it's in the range in the front of 3 to 3.5 inches and the rear would be 4 to 4.5 inches higher.

Oh yea, as for the shackles, when you get a 2" shackle, you will notice some sway in the rear. I have since switched to air shocks and I keep them pumped to 65 psi to keep the rear up. Its at about the same level as the shackles and its much more stable. I know other people are running smaller shackles that don't notice too much sway. It would probably also help to have a sway bar on the rear but that would not be necessary.

Springs for the rear is another option, and my choice. Increased load capacity, lift and no worries about the rearend shifting. If you tow or load heavy they may be a better option.

Shackles do offer increased articulation.

Blocks would lower the truck as we have spring under axles.

If you want 2" rear shackles without the usual sway problems just install some urethane bushings with the shackles. :D

Daystar makes some nice lift shackles that come with polyurethane bushings plus they also offer them in a greasable version.

I had the greasable Daystars on my CC and they worked great. :wink:

No sway, excellent articulation, and the greasable bushings help keep everything bind free and quiet. :D

Well I do plan on doing some towing. Cars, and other stuff. The truck feels a little loose now, I don't want to add to it, but it could be bad shocks.

If, they are OEM shocks then they are bad! I replaced mine at just over 600 miles on the odometer.

Dont know if they are factory or not. 60,000 miles. Have a recommendation? I guess I would need some +2 for 2 inches of lift.

Many opinions on shocks but, I prefer the Bilstiens. Stock HD ones will work fine.
