Just bought truck, noises in rear
A couple hours of driving after I bought the truck, I started to hear like a grinding noise from the rear. It also clunks and sounds like something is engaging/disengaging. My first thought was a bad locker, but I dont know if it even has one. There is the G80 code listed in the glovebox, not sure if that means I have it or not. My second thought was the abs system.
It only does it past 30 mph, and does it whether im accelerating or braking.

G80 does mean you have the Eaton Govloc locking rear differential.
Your first step should be to check the condition and level of differential lubricant.
While you're under there check the u-joints. They are a likely suspect.
Keep your eyes open and check the brakes too. All are suspect in this case.
Let us know what you find and we will work from there.

Everything appears to be fine. I jacked up the rear this morning and both axles turn freely, but the other tire spins opposite when i turn it by hand, I thought this didnt happen with a locker, anyway I put the truck in drive and took it up to speed with the ass up and the noise came back so I looked underneath and it sounded like it was coming right from the driveshaft, more rear than forward. The UV joints dont have any slop in them but when I turn the driveshaft by hand each way to its stop I hear what could be noise only quieter.????? It sounds a lot like ratcheting and then it catches, sometimes it jolts the truck just a bit. Now the drivshaft is relatively new as there was an old broken one in the bed when I bought it. Don't know why it broke, the truck was a theft recovery, so who the hell knows what problems may surface.....but this driveline has been shocked.

I guess the next step is to take the driveshaft loose from the rear axle. Check the joints.
If those are good and well lubricated then look to the differential. Rotate the pinion by hand and feel for roughness. If you don't find anything, then you will need to pull the cover to check things out further.

Well, I just dropped it off for an inspection to get the real title, so they'll take a look at it, i dont dare to install differentials anyway. I'm thinking that when it was stolen he beat it pretty good, since he ran over a bunch of stuff. I've heard the stock one is weak, some pin shearing, so if in fact this is the problem I'd like to put in a stronger one.
The UV joints didnt appear to be too lubed, but they are newish, and maybe the grease is still sealed well. But its very tight and no slop, shifting is real smooth.

Well I yanked the truck from the shop, too slow. Anyway the noise went away, so I took it out in the woods, and used the 4x4. When I turned it off and headed down the road, the noise came back, so I put it back into 4 and back to 2 and it went away. So what I'm thinking is the locker has a disengaging issue. Now I've never known a locker to be smooth and super quiet, but its a little disturbing, especially when I'm three hours from home.

Check the front axle actuator under the battery. Th cable make be corroded , damaged, or the actuator may have a leak?

The problem is in the transfer case. I thought it was the rear due to missing the rear window, so naturally all sounds came through there. I disconnected the front driveshaft and the noise is gone. When I turned it by hand, it was kinda rough and noisy. Might be some chewed up gears? A brand new one is about $900, theres a bunch of used ones on ebay for around 100. Looks like it wouldnt be too hard to remove and replace either. But I'm stumped on why it only did it on acceleration.
