Engine Knock

Engine Knock
When started up my truck today and my engine immediately began knocking. The knock sped up with the RPMs. does anyone know how much this would cost to repair? i checked the oil and it was fine. i'm really worried about it.

are you sure it wasn't the lifters ticking? Did it go away once the truck warmed up?
My lifters started ticking last winter, i ran Castrol Startup oil for one oil change and it went away and hasn't come back since. It's pretty common on the 4.3's

yeah thats what i thought it was at first but it didn't go away afetr my engine started heating up. i looked under my truck yesterday to find that i have a real bad oil leak and it looks as if something may have broken and sprayed oil all over my front diferential. but i checked my oil right when it started knocking and the oil level was fine. i guess ill check it again today and see if it has dropped.

turns out that the only reason that my engine was knocking was because of the high mileage oil i had just put in it. the knocking went away after driving for about a half an hour.
