Cooling Transmission Pans.....
Anyone use these, or have any thoughts on them? $80 doesn't look like a bad price if it actually helps. The integrated drain plug would make fluid changes a ton easier as well. Not sure how the hard-core off-road guys would like it sticking down though. :dunno:
I was searching for tranny coolers when I found this. Totally forgot they existed despite getting good reviews from the Sy/Ty guys. Of course, I'd wager to bet they beat their trans alot harder than we could ever wish to.

I've at those or just the cast aluminum finned ones. I'm just not sure how much air is really moving up by the tranny. Its up a little high and out of the main air flow.

I'll agree with both of those points.2kwik4u wrote:My thinking is that with the trans already being overworked. Every little bit helps.
The drain plug is another neat feature to help keep things easy to service.

Here is a link to the Derale pan for 4L60E's @ Summit Racing.
Look at the notes near the bottom.

Here is another link to Derales web site that says the same thing about their pan not being compatible with 4L60E's with OEM deep pans.
I don't always trust the info on Summit's web site.

After the cooler add a gauge. I think you will be pleasantly surprised as to how cool it runs. If anything you may get a little worried about it warming up to operating temperature.
I am still considering a transmission pan. Not so much for cooling anymore, but the extra volume might be nice, or perhaps adding some beef to the transmission.
