2003 Bumpers
I have yet to see this on the forum, but I was wondering if anyone else has noticed that the 2001 and 2002 Crew Cab designs have more traditionally-styled chrome front and rear bumpers (My father-in-law has a Red 2001) and that the 2003 model year has color-matched bumpers (I have a Indigo Blue Metallic 2003).

Since I bought mine last year & bought a 98 Base for my son in Feb. I have been noticing all the different bumper configurations used on S-10s. The Blazer & our Crew Cab seem to share the same trim combinations. In 03 they went to a more monochrome look with exposing more of the steel (valance below instead of covering all but the upper portion of the bumper). Other than cutting costs (I say costs because the 03 bumper is exactly the same one as the base truck) I see it as a standardizing move as these vehicles are slowly phased out. Since I like chrome I purchased the Chevy, & I'm glad I did before the chrome was phased out.
Best Regards, Jim

They went in 2003, with all the same bumpers now on all chevy crews and blazers. So 2002 was the last year for the LS chrome bumpers. Since the production is winding down, I can see why they only want to build one bumper. The GMC IIRC has never had chrome bumpers and normally color-matched or black. I liked the chrome rear bumper, but I did not like the front bumper on the crew cause it was all covered up by the rubber strip. When the ZR5 package came out, It swayed me to buy it over the others cause I like that it looked like a ZR2. I still wish it was a real ZR2 though.

I know what you mean about covering over the crome bumper. I took the color matched cover off the bottom of my bumper leaving just the chrome and the black strip across the front. I did this originally for mounting extra bracing on my brush guard and was going to put the cover back on but liked the extra chrome showing. What I'm wondering now is if the plain black bottom piece from the standard bumper will bolt on underneath the chrome one. If I can find one in a junkyard I'll try it out. Might be interesting.
