Superlift in the works
What's up? I just registered today, but I've been reading these posts since I got my 2003 S-10 Crew Cab 2 months ago. Anyways, I have been weighing my lifting options and have been on so many manufacturers' websites that I am dizzy. When you rule out doing a body lift (I don't want the added baggage) or the cool (but too extreme for me) SFA swap, the only decent option you're left is the trailmaster. Well, I just got off the phone today with Superlift and they are in the process of developing a 5 or 6 in complete suspension lift kit for non zr2's. The tech guy said it would run about $1600 on the street. And within a year, too.

Some clarification
The Superlift tech said that neither their 2" suspension lift (due to severe tire rub) or their 6" ZR2 (because of different components) fit the crew cab, but they have had sooooo much interest in a higher (5-6") non-ZR2 late model 4x4 lift that they have decided to design and manufacture one. He said their time frame (like stated above) is definitely within a year. Whether or not that's a 12 month period or the end of this year, I don't know. But he was speaking in "when's" and not "if's"!!! He was pretty sure the design team's goal was to be able to put in 33" tires (32 at least). How? I don't know, but that's what he said.
I don't want to knock the Trailmaster and Truckin kits, but I did see that while Trailmaster only offers a one year warranty, Superlift's is a limited lifetime, good for as long as the purchaser owns the vehicle. Of the two local installers I called, one didn't install Trailmaster at all (though they would sell it if you wanted it) and the other only did so if it was the last choice of manufacturer. The second guy hasn't had very good experiences with Trailmaster and felt their quality was down as compared to other brands. I was honestly set on the Trailmaster, but after discovering this, I think I'll wait it out. And the estimated price includes shocks & boots (The ZR2 kit even has stuff like brake hose extention brackets).

That tag line is soooo true!
I tried to convince myself that I could just live with stock height. Then I saw Quickbiker's CC close up. Parking next to a ZR2 at the local 7-11 didn't help any either. My truck looked like a lowrider compared to the ZR2. I've got the lift kit bug bad right now but after shelling out 2 grand for a new garden tractor, I don't think my wife's gonna let me get it for a long while. Time to start saving money in my little hidden stash again!

My neighbor has an ExCab 2wd. Stock my Crew was about the same height I convinced him to drop his 2" and I raised mine 2". Now you can tell which one is the 4x4GaryH wrote:I tried to convince myself that I could just live with stock height. Then I saw Quickbiker's CC close up. From what I've seen, most 4wd's are getting like that. Fact is that most people who buy 4x4's do so for bad weather driving and never take them off road so ground clearance isn't an issue. Safety sells and is an issue so they all make them lower now.
I remember watching some TV show where they were evaluating new cars and SUV's. The SUV they were "testing" was a Chevy Tahoe I think. Anyway, they were driving down a "trail" and commenting on how well the thing handled off road.
The "trail" was a gravel road!

FYI
just becuase superlift offers a better warranty doesnt make it a better lift
i would still go with the trailmaster. its proven on the trail as a good lift.

I think superlift has been saying this for a long time. I would not hold your breath, esp since the s10 line is being phased out. It took them a long time to make a ZR2 kit. If you think about it, there is a much greater chance for a ZR2 owner to want a lift, compared to a non ZR2 owner. The only difference for us is that the Crew is not available in a ZR2 form. I can see a larger percentage of Crew owners wanted a lift, but still overall, that probably going to be a smaller group than the ZR2 lifters. Unless they can slightly re-design the current ZR2 kit easily(AKA cheaply), I don't see them coming out with one since there is two makers already for our models. My guess is that the Colorado will get all the R and D time now. But I could be suprised since there is a lot of new crew memebers here so GM is selling them at a good rate still.

i dont see why they couldnt just mod their zr2 lift out to make it fit. all they have to do is narrow most of the parts, cuz it will need all the same exact parts but just narrower

I will say that in my area and even in a mag like Truckin' there are more and more lifted vehicles and it seems to me that more and more kits are being developed for different vehicles - if the aftermarket demand is there I guess it doesn't have to be a new vehicle. just thinking out loud...
