torision bar DE-crank...

Post by crew cab sonoma »

as some of you may recall, i`ve complained about the rough ride on my truck before, and i finally found what most of the problem was...
i think someone may have done a TB crank on my truck before, i`m not sure. but i have also put my truck on a bit of a diet.

what i found, was that my upper control arms were actually resting on the rubber extension bump stops, when the truck was parked on level pavement... so i backed off the TB bolts 2 1/2 turns, and what an improvement in the ride!

to help out a little more, i also took the front sway bar loose at the frame, and lubricated the bushings and bar with dielectric silicone grease, and placed a washer around each bolt, between the frame and the bushing bracket, to reduce the clamp load on the bar.
this helped ride quality slightly, just enough to notice. didnt seem to affect body roll to a significant degree.

my truck`s front suspension now has a reasonable ride quality, i just need to soften the rear suspension up some now...

i may try backing off the TB adj. bolts another 1/2-1 turn, to see if any further ride improvements can be had. i`m not really wanting to reduce the height of my truck, but if it improves ride, i`ll do it.

just thought i`d post this for anybody wh has done an aggressive TB crank, and got a very rough ride out of it, to check to see if your truck has run out of extension travel, from resting on the upper cont. arm bump stops....

Make sure you get an alignment, even after de-cranking the t-bars.

For softening up the rear ride, count how many leafs you have. You may have an add-a-leaf in there, which can be removed. If not, it might be time to replace the shocks.

will do. i`m due for a new set of tires, and i will definetly get it aligned before they go on.

no add-a-leafs, and the rear shocks are just a few weeks old...

UPDATE: i backed off the T-bar adjuster bolts another 1 full turn over the weekend, the ride improved very slightly. i will probably leave them there.
the loss of front ride height isnt all that bad, about where stock height would be. i can live with that...

now to improve the rear. will 2WD leaf springs bolt up? and how much would they alter the rear height?
