I scored a supercharger from a junkyard
Days like today make me happy..... I stopped by the local junk yard today to look around and I found a wrecked 2001 Blazer the insurance company was about to take. Looked real nice....alteast it used to. The entire back end, from the rear doors back was crushed. I got to looking around, and popped the hood just out of curiosity. The engine was supercharged with a Powerdyne unit. I haggled with the guy for a while, and we finally came to an agreement: I would remove it and the necessary parts, and if it didn't work, I could bring it back. I called a friend who is more of an engine mechanic than I to help me. We just finished He looked it over and said it looked like it was in great condition...even the belt! So anyways....after the move, I've got a project Oh yea, forgot to mention, my credit card is only $400 heavier. Couldn't pass this one up So anyways, I'm gonna need some help with this one in terms of tips, tricks, etc...
EDIT: Found part number: PD-K10526-201

wamason, the part # you listed (PD-K10526-201) is for a 2000-2002 S10 2 wheel drive with the 4.3L. Part # PD-K10527-201 is for a 4 wheel drive. I doubt there is any difference, but maybe you should call Powerdyne just to make sure you won't have any problems. Did you also get the headers? The part # you listed includes headers. You don't really need them, but you will pick up a little more power with them. Here is a link to there site! Powerdyne Superchargers

Thanks Steve, I'll check. I didn't pay any attention to the headers... I'll call them and see if they still have the Blazer so I can take a look.killian96ss wrote:wamason, the part # you listed (PD-K10526-201) is for a 2000-2002 S10 2 wheel drive with the 4.3L. I'm not sure the headers would work with the 2" BL anyway. I think the problem will be the steering shaft. On most late model S10 headers the steering shaft actually goes through one of the primary tubes. When you raise the steering shaft up 2"' it will no longer pass through the opening. If you wanted to make them work all you would have to do is cut out that primary tube and have an exhaust shop weld in a new one with a bigger loop.

They picked the Blazer up 20 minutes ago. Just talked to Will at the yard
I also talked to someone at PD. They said there shouldn't be any problem installing the unit on a 4x4, and that the BL would really help, give more room.
The guy said something about needing a new belt but I had someone else talking to me here at work so I may have to call back.

I think the tranny will hold up ok. The only thing I would do is install a Corvette servo. I have been putting 400 hp through the 4L60E in my SS for the past 6 years with no problems, and all I have is the factory installed Corvette servo and Transgo shift kit.Blaze One wrote:with the money you saved on the PD unit , you can upgrade that tranny !!

I can't recall for sure but, I "think" KCustom stated he was getting about 230 or 240 hp at the rear wheels.killian96ss wrote:Nice find wamason! $400 is a hell of a deal on a Powerdyne unit! With that SC you should be right around 300 hp!

Reed, do you know how much we get stock at the rear wheels so I'll have a basis on which to compare?f9k9 wrote:I can't recall for sure but, I "think" KCustom stated he was getting about 230 or 240 hp at the rear wheels.killian96ss wrote:Nice find wamason! $400 is a hell of a deal on a Powerdyne unit! Just doing a quick search and not knowing it was a 2WD, AT, or what, it appears to be in the 143 rwhp range.

The 300 hp I stated is at the crank, not rwhp. You will never get 300 rwhp from our 4.3L unless you supercharge it and add a little nitrous. Most engines with automatics like the 4L60E will lose 25% of the power through the drivetrain before reaching the rear wheels. This would put you pretty close to 230 rwhp.
