agin with the wheels spacing

Post by loki »

Hey hey!!

Sorry about beating this dead horse but there's still something I don't understand. Is hubcentric a type of wheel spacer? or is a manufacture?

And I've noticed a wide range of rear wheel spacers but for a stock truck, no lift, with 30-9.5 inch tires, will I need some sort of front spacing so that the wheels won't rub?

I understand I will need atleast 1.25inches in the back.

Hubcentric is a way to mount the wheel. On some vehicles the wheels are hubcentric, that means the the wheel is centered by the hub and the lugs just hold the wheel in place. All S-Series trucks on the other hand have what I have heard refered to as lug centric, the wheel is centered by the lugs.

You dont need spacers we all just wanted to rear to line up with the front .The front track is 2in wider then the rear just stand behind your truck and look at it and you will see why we have done this mod.If you wanna keep it simple just put 1 1/4 spacers on the rear and your good to go

The smaller rear track is further emphasized by the large bulge in our rear fenders.

With stock wheels, the edge of the tires on both ends are still tucked under the fenders, so the difference in track isn't as apparent. With aftermarket wheels, which usually have 3" to 4" backspacing, the edge of the front wheels is pushed about an inch past the stock flares, while the rear still sits tucked under the fenders. Makes the truck look goofy to my eyes. On my truck, with the cutout flares and the 33's on aftermarket wheels with 3.75" BS, the difference looks even worse. The front tires extend 1.25" past the cutouts, while the rears are 1.5" inside the edge! I believe this is because even though the flare is the same on both ends (3.5"), the front flares rest in that crease in the S-10 front fenders, taking away almost an inch of effective flare coverage. I would recommend at least 1.5" rear spacers to even things up with stock flares. I'm considering 2.5" spacers to get the rear tires pushed out another inch, to match the front coverage.

Go three inch. I went from two inch to three and it looks properly proportioned now.
Three inch is the thickest I have seen.

I guess I should qualify that last statement. The rear track of mine is now 1.75" wider than the front? Well not really...The front is 2.1" wider than the rear. I added 1.25" spacers to the front. That makes the front 4.6" wider than the rear, so I added 3" spacers to the rear. This widened the rear 6".
The difference comes out 1.4" wider rear, or .7" for each side.
Clear as mud? ;)

Hey hey!!!

Belive it or not that all makes perfect sense. Well, except for the last post.
I think I will just go with the 1.25 inch rear spacer and be done with it.
Thanks, has any one found a Canadian seller of the spacers yet? I tried but the were trying to sell me 1/4 inch wheel shims.

Just from my experience, when my truck had nothing but a BL on it, stock wheels and tires, my front tires/wheels were exactly even with the front fender. When I put 2" spacers on the rear, my rear wheels/tires were exactly even with the rear fender, because of the bulge, which is what I wanted. Sorry to throw one more thing in the mix...

Jeff, did you ever get 20's? I think your truck would look sweet with Skidz cutout flares, painted to match the body, along with the larger wheels :)
