Hey everybody, I have a ?. I'm considering removing my Air/smog pump. From everything I've read, it's useless to replace them. I can live with an SES light on as I scan my PCM every few weeks or so.
My questions here are:
1) What all is involved in the removal of the pump?
2) What size belt will be needed after removal?
3) Will I see a difference in power/performance at all? (would it be worth it?)
I was told by someone that I would notice a "significant" increase in power. That word is high subjective, so I don't look for alot, but some would be nice.
Any ideas?

Our air pump is not belt driven. It is electric. I don't see any obvious advantage or performance benefits from it's removal.

The only down side to removing the secondary air injection system is it will shorten the life of the catalytic converter. If you have any sort of emission testing where you live do not remove the air pump. I removed the air injection system on my SS only because there was a TSB saying that I could do it legally since it was not needed to pass emission testing. Removing this system without a vehicle specific TSB is a federal violation just like removing your catalytic converter. You will gain absolutely nothing by removing this system since it is only there to inject extra air into the exhaust system at start up to reduce emissions.
