Post by BADs Crew »

A friend just called me and he can't get the clutch fan off to do a water pump replacement. Does anyone know how it ir removed? Is the pump shaft threaded?

You have to go to the auto parts store and rent a clutch fan removal tool

it comes with a peice that grabs onto 2 of the water pump bolts so it won't spin

and a big arse wrench that fits over the large nut on the clutch fan.

don't try to use vice grips or an adjustable wrench, you will only strip it. tell him to just go rent the tool and it will come off really really easy.

Use a 1 7/16 open end wrench , or thin adjustable end wrench (Crescent wrench) and a BFH.

There is no way to muscle it loose. Leave the belt on and put the wrench on the nut and give it a hard whack or two. it is right hand threaded, so "lefty loosey".
It should break loose and then thread off by hand.
