Flare Cut Out Templates & Stock Flares

Post by D68enny »

Does anybody know if you can use the cut out templates offered by HenryJ for the skidz flares, but use the factory flares somehow to fit in the new wheel well. I have everything I need to run 31's, except tires and flares. Will factory flares bend to fit the new cut out? I will have the money soon for new tires, but not the flares. Can I get by without flares for now. I have body lift, shackles, torsion bar crank. I want to run 31's. thanks for the help.

It is not likely that there would be enough material in the stock flares.
As you widen the wheel well the circumference increases. I am afraid the stock flares would no longer be long enough even if you could reshape them.

If they were a lighter weight material like the Bushwacker or Skidz flares, you might be able to use a heat gun and some handy work to reshape them. The stock flares are cast not formed though so reshaping would be much more difficult.

I would think your best bet would be to take them off carefully and sell them to offset the cost of a set of Skidz flares. In the mean time you can make the cuts and run flareless.

If you are careful , running the stock wheels, a small 31 and don't offroad much you can get by without any cutting for a while. 31's will clear OK with the stock wheels rear spacing. You can even do some mild offroading.

That is what I thought. I thought I remembered you saying something about the plyability of the stock flares soemwhere, but I could not find it. I may just go flareless for a while. Thank you Henry.

the front flare you can reshape, like i did.

but the rear fender flare is plastic so when i made my cuts, i took a pie shaped cut out of the flare and bent it to fit. it doesn't look nearly as nice as the skidz cut-outs but it's the cheap way to go.
