new coolant
If I quit running dex like everyone suggests, are there any preps that I need to do to my original radiator besides draining and a good flushing. How can I be sure that I have flushed all of the dex out of my cooling system, heater core, ect.? What brand do you'll suggest? My radiator is leaking on the driver side tank and when I have I fixed i'm gonna change over. The dex seems to turn to sluge eventually in every chevy i've had so far. MY crew is an '02 if it matters!

Make sure you flush the system thoroughly with one of those flush kits like Prestone makes. Once the water coming out look nice and clear your good to go. I am using Prestone green coolant and distilled water (50/50 mix) with 1 bottle of Redline Watter Wetter for improved heat transfer and corrosion protection.

Steve has it covered but, you will also want to make sure you heater is on to get at the heater core's coolant.

Do we have a coolant control valve or just a free flow system through the heater core? I really don't know. Maybe HJ has the answer? If we have a free flow system then there would be no need to have the heater on while flushing.f9k9 wrote:you will also want to make sure you heater is on to get at the heater core's coolant.

I just turned 23000 mi., but when I bought the truck I found that I had a leak and finally figured out where it was coming from.

No valve the heater core is circulating hot water all the time. That is why I added a valve.killian96ss wrote:Do we have a coolant control valve or just a free flow system through the heater core?
