I would think that a basket and brush bar would be first.
The stock rack would not be high enough to be of much use and no where to attach at the front, stock.

Probably will be a East coast thing. We don't have too many limbs to worry about in the high desert.

Limb risers, explination

Post by mjmcdowell »

Jeff024, Ok..... limb risers are 1/8" cables run from the front left and right side of the vehicle corners usually mounted on the brush guard and extending to a roof rack/basket corners, left and right side to deflect and prevent brush/small to medium sized limbs from scratching or otherwise damaging your wind shield they are also made in such a way so that they can be easely removed when not needed as they tend to whistle and vibrate at high speeds. You do need a brush guard and rack/ basket as mounting points however. I made a set and they work very well in keeping the wind shield protected on tight trails up here in the north east. stay safe, mjmcdowell

Show us!
I'd like to see your mod 8)

You mention vibration a speed. The AM/FM antennas had the same problem that is why GM twists a wire around them in a spiral. It disturbs the airflow and steadys the antenna. Chrysler uses a rubber sleeve to do the same thing.

Most people assume that spiraled wire has something to do with the antennas reception. It is just there to prevent vibrating at speed.

I wonder if there is a cable out there with a similar design? I could see wrapping a piece of wire in a spiral around a plastic wrapped cable and then heating it to "glue" it to the cable. Might work?

Limb deflectors, more

Post by mjmcdowell »

All correct! Check this site out, www.redbirdsra.com , this is like the way I did mine except I attached mine via. a loop on the top end to go around the end of my roof rack tube also I covered the upper loops and E bolt shank parts that were exposed w/gas line tubing and the ends of the bolts with vinyl screw end protectors to make every thing neat also used barrel/closed turnbuckles and 1/8" cable, stainless was used through out. Learned something HJ about the sprial wire wrap but these are so easy to attach and remove I don't see the need to wrap them ( you would however as your mod's are nothing if not very sanitary indeed!!) East coast, Northwest any where the conditions might warrent the need but no...probably not in the desert. They are very popular among those who own Land Rovers all over the world. Just a word tho if you leave them installed be prepared to answer the "what are the wires for query" stay safe, mjmcdowell. Soon as I learn to post photos.............
