Good replacement muffler for Stock eshaust piping?

Post by shakin »

What is a good muffler that is "close" to a bolt in muffler? I have done the airbox mod already and want to compliment it with a good muffler. I don't mind if I have to do SOME fabricating, and I can weld. But, I don't want it to turn into a monster garage project to put the muffler on.

Check with your local shop and see what they recommend?

The reason that I suggest that is different climates can affect the life and performance of the exhaust system. Your profile lacks a location , making it hard to guess what your conditions might be. A local shop will know what has been working well for your area. You will also need to consider your own driving habits. Long commutes burn the moisture from the system. Short commutes may need a system that heats quicker.

Jim found an Ebay muffler that looked pretty good and should have an opinion on performance by now.

It is likely that you will want to stay with stainless steel if possible. The dissimilar metals can create electrolysis and perhaps an early demise?

I have convinced a few to go with a complete 3" cat back system. I still believe this is the "sweet spot" for these trucks.

It's still in the box in my basement, I decided I really dislike the sound of the V6. I'm not going to use it, if I do anything it will be another tailpipe grafted onto the original pipe at the rear of the stock muffler. But I'm not happy with running the tailpipe out the left with the brake hose so close...man I'm full of excuses
I may sell the stainless muffler someday it's a straight through design with stainless steel wool inside.

I put a V-Force muffler on mine. It was about $90 installed. It gave it a bit of a growl. Just enough in my opinion. As for performance, I can't recall any noticable gains. Maybe a little low end. But I really liked the muffler just the same. :)

Like HJ recommended, check with local muffler shops. You have stainless now and if you drive less than 10 miles to work or school and if, you go to anything else you will not burn off the overnight condensation and then rusting may become an issue.

I dumped the stock system and only have a 5.2 mile drive to work but, it looks/sounds good with over a year on it now. You can buy gibson, borla or whatever all in SS but, I am happy with my 3" catback delta flow 40 that cost $170 and used the savings on whatever mod I did following it..
