Camcorders Recommendations

Post by F9K9 »

I've just learned that Mrs Hoff would like a camcorder or a Large diamond ring for Christmas ! :bonk:

The diamond is out so, any recommendations on a moderately priced camcorder?

I have a Sharp VHS recorder that I have been using for 10 years that still works fine. We thought we would upgrade so we went with a JVC minidv. The mini dv is compact but with play back you have to use the cam. They make a player but they go between $1500 to $2000. You can't buy an adaptor for the minidv. If I had thought things out better I would have went with the Sony DVD. It burns to a disk so you can drop it rite in your DVD player.

I thought about that same line of features but, I bought a sony camera that used the mini CDs for her in '02 and wished I had waited. Cameras have increased in megapixel and use different storage devices for a lot cheaper now.

That sounds a little like your minidv. I'm leaning towards a sony digital hi8 until things settle down. Eventually there will be a reasonably priced camcorder that will use a small hicap storage device that you can just plug in your PC and burn a dvd after you edited it.

Yea things change fast. I was at work when my other half called wanting to buy the mini and I ok'd it over the phone without thinking. Our Sharp Camcorder was acting up. Later I found that the battery had took a dive and replaced it and it now works find so I still use it. The new minidv is now a dust collecting paper weight. :x

Had a Sony.. it was junk. Have a JVC now its better but still junk. All camcorders that use tape have poor quality unless you go pro. I'd go with a unit that uses a chip or DVD. My 2 cents worth :D

I appreciate all the help I can get. I was thinking about the digital tape to use until the technology levels off a little. I just remember the prices on the first VCRs and DVD players.

i suggest the sony digital 8 cameras from a few years ago. you can get one off ebay for a couple hundred bucks. the reason that you want the old ones is because the infared system that came with them can work during daylight. so then you can take the camera and go to the pool or beach and any girl that has a "tan thru" swim suit on, the camera will see right thru it.

the new ones on infared mode will just blow out the picture during daylight so you cant see nothing. :D
