Wish I had pics....

Post by Walt »

Well, had me a bit of an interesting evening. We were coming home from my cousin's wedding in the MS delta (a 3 hour drive), and I saw two spotlights pointed almost vertical a ways down the road. When I got to the spot, it turned out to be a Jeep Cherokee 4x4 stuck in the median  But I have to give it to this guy....I don't know how anyone could've gotten this stuck in a median. It was worthy of a 4x4 magazine article. The median was pretty deep, and his back glass was almost touching mud.

Several people had stopped by the time me and the owner had taken a good look at everthing. We got some folks to stand in the road to slow people down and everthing (it's a 4 lane highway). I hooked up my trusty superstrap to one of his front tow hooks and then to my receiver (the correct way, by inserting it into the receiver and using the hitch pin to hold it).

I kinda had my doubts that I'd be able to budge the Jeep considering the angle, but I put the CC in 4Lo and started moving. It was VERY slow going to keep from spinning my tires on the pavement (did I mention that it's been raining here?). So after finally pulling him out of the median and onto the highway, I and halfway off the other side of the highway facing a shallow gully. We got everything unhooked, and other than a messed up rear bumper, the Cherokee was ok.

Like my title says....I wish I had gotten pics

Man you would have put that winch to much more use than I have. Get those plans and template to a welding shop! You NEED a winch.

I say go with the tires, if you break a strap its cheaper to replace than winch parts.
