speed bleeder

Has anyone installed a set of speed bleeders to their brake systems? Russell Performance maskes some, Summit sales them for about $9.00. I was thinking of picking up a set, but was wondering what your opinions are on this. The speed bleeders allows you to bleed the brakes by your self. i've never used them......sounds like a nice gadget/mod!!!!

Don't get them! They have a horrible failure rate. I believe it's somewhere near 40%. A pressure or vacuum bleeder is way more efficient. I used to use the Russel Speed Bleeders and every time I bled the brakes it seemed like the brakes got worse.

I now use a pressure bleeder from Motive products and it works very nice.

What model for the motive products are you using to bleed your breaks, and how easy is it to use. I have a mityvac and tried it on one of my other cars and it was kind of hard. Maybe because i was doing it wrong oh wel...

The Mityvac works ok, but it does suck in air around the threads on the bleeder screws which makes it hard to tell when the air in the system has been purged. I used to use one until I dropped it one day and it smashed into a hundred pieces.

The Motive bleeder that I'm using right now is the American Bleeder Kit part # 0252. I got mine at a Good Guys car show for about $45. Summit sells it for $70. I only got kit part # 0252 because it came with 2 adapters which I needed for my SS. It looks like you would only need the Universal Bleeder part # 0101 for just the S10 which Summit sells for $50. They also have a new bleeder which is called the GM Power Bleeder part # 0108 which uses adapter part # 1108 which appears to just screw right onto the S10 reservoir instead of having to clamp it on which would be easier. I would call Motive to make sure the new adapter 1108 actually fits the S10 if you order model # 0108. Summit sells the GM Power Bleeder for $80. The Motive bleeder is very easy to use. First you clamp the adapter onto the reservoir opening, test for leaks using only air, then fill the tank with brake fluid, pressurize the tank using the pump, open a bleeder screw on a caliper (make sure to follow the correct order RR, LR, RF, LF). I usually do the sequence twice and flush a full quart through the system.

Yeah I ran into the same problem with the Mityvac. That's when I started looking into the speed bleeders. But since it has a failure rate of 40%, I am moving towards the Motive Products. Sounds like a great product. Thanks Steve for the input and directions, sounds pretty easy to use.
