air intake

Post by nickclark1979 »

What do you think about a air intake kit like this one for sale on ebay or the box mod?

First off, welcome to the site

They do not mention what brand of filter that it is :(

I think that the shipping costs are absolute robbery

If the case of that intake, I'd go with the airbox mod with a K&N drop-in replacement :D

That is just my .02 cents.

$1.99 + $24.95 shipping = $26.94

Only concerns I'd have are is there a support bracket like the airraid version or is the MAS left resting on the upper radiator hose (this would be bad and eventually wear thru the hose and make a big mess) and is that a cleanable/reusable filter? Assuming a positive response to both, I'd jump on it.

The beneift of using this setup over the free airbox mod is that you retain your original airbox. So, if dealer ever gives you a hard time about warranty work not being covered because of intake mod you can switch it back. Also can switch back before trade-in or resale and reuse the intake in your next GM 4.3L.

The cone filter is reusable but, I have seen those "wannabe" K&Ns aimed at the ricers pretty cheap and not last very long.

If they had the support bracket, you would think that they would mention but, maybe they neglected to do so. You could support tube with a back yard heatshield similar to how I made mine.

As for warranty work, this came up recently in the classifieds and am sure that a stock air box can be found in a local salvage yard for a reasonable price.
