Rid of the CREW??
Well folks! I was driving by & saw a new Nissan Titan Crew with 20" rims. I stopped & check it out. It is soooo sweet! It had a cool tie down system in the bed, an access panel in the outside of the bed (behind the rear tire), power rear window, 5.6L V-8 with 305 horses. Tows like 9600 lbs! It had storage under the rear seats that was removable for extra "in-cab" hauling. An in-dash 6-disk CD changer and just tons of room inside! MAN! I really do love that truck! Now the downside... after all the after market parts the dealer put on, it stickers at just under 40K!!!! WHOA!!! I drooled for a little while then hopped back in the good ol' S-10 and drove the heck outta there!
As much as I would ABSOLUTELY LOVE to have that Titan, 40 grand is way, way, way too much money for a new truck! At least IMO. I could probably mod my CC as much as I wanted and still have a total price of under 20K to keep what I got. And that's just what I'mma gonna do! KEEP WHAT I GOTS!!!

I know how you feel
The GM employee discount AND the rebates open to the public had me eyeballing full size GMC trucks night before last. $11K off sticker makes me think to much for my own good

If I ever make another NEW vehicle purchase, I think I may steer clear of GM. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE GM products and I'm a GM kinda guy, but I have heard too many horror stories about GM not standing behind their product. I'm sure you can agree from your experience F9K9! For instance, my best friend just bought an `05 Chevy 2500 Crew 4x4. He has about 6K miles on it and the transmission is making "screaching" noises between 1st & 2nd gear. After contacting 2 dealerships and GM regional rep, he found out that GM does indeed know about the noise and knows why it is doing it. However, they said that "trucks make noise sometimes" and doing anything about it at this point is "not an option." I think if I spent 40K on a truck like him, I would the think through the showroom floor if I was having that kind of problem.f9k9 wrote:I know how you feel

That's just one of about 4 horror stories I heard lately from new GM owners. Yep! As much as I hate to say it, I think next time I'll try my luck with a different vehicle manufacturer.

Am afraid to admit that I agree with Pauleo but, alas I have to say that GM is now deserving of it's junk bond rating on the stock market.
I will look hard at Nissan and even harder at Toyota for my next vehicle. I remember the day when 100k on a vehicle was unheard of and now on a locally built camry it is considered to be just broken in.
The only japanese experience I have is the 1st gen Mitsubishi/Chrysler built Eclipse/Talon/Laser I owned and it had 110K on it in late '01 and I still see it when my "ex" comes to town and still no rust or smoke.
You would think that a complicated power plant like a DOHC intercooled turbo would have swallowed a valve or something by now.
Front pads, the recommended timing belt change at 70K was all I did to it and it screamed to the day I tossed her the keys and changed my door locks

I plan to drive the wheels off of my Crewcab and then I'll put 'em back on and drive it some more. If I ever did buy another new car or truck it would be Toyota or Nissan. With a few rare strays here and there, I've always been loyal to GM but not anymore. In fact, I wouldn't touch anything "American made" as far as cars and trucks go. I hate to say that but with all the problems I've had with the last few new vehicles I've bought and the dealers unwillingness to fix even minor problems without being threatened, I've had it! It's not just GM but Ford and Chrysler too.
I read about YOUR experiences with the GM and I figured you would have no problem agreeing with me. I'm sure that these kind of problems exsist with all the manufacturers but, like I said, I have just heard WAY too many horror stories about GM lately.F9K9 wrote:Am afraid to admit that I agree with Pauleo...
I'm certain that my next truck will be a Nissan or Toyota. I really want to do the "right thing" and buy American, but when American companies won't stand behind there so called American made (uh, er.. and Canadian made) products, then I have no problem giving my money to the Japanese. Besides, that Nissan was AWESOME!!!!!!!
I found out that the Titan also comes with a 9- speaker stereo system that includes a sub woofer! All by Rockford Fosgate!!! That's pretty sweet!

Well, I wouldn't say I was "wishing" they would go under. Way too many people out of work as it is. There's too many greedy big companies in this country that only care about their profits, executive stocks options, etc, to spend the money building decent products. It's not just the car makers either. Maybe I'm just one of those people who lives in a different world or something but I just don't understand where the pride went in this country. It just seems like there are very few left who actually take pride in what they do and don't worry about how much money they are making in the process. When I was a mechanic and later a computer tech, I would do little extra things for customers that I wouldn't charge them for. Why? Because it made ME feel good and gave me a sense of pride in my work. Most of my coworkers thought I was nuts for bothering. Ironically, most of them still have jobs and I don't.barch97 wrote:Your wish just may come true there, Rusty. What with GM and Ford on the verge of bankruptcy. And, I can't imagine Chrysler is doing much better (just doing a better job of keeping their dirty laundry to themselves).
If anyone wants another american car, you'd better go get it soon.

It is not that I hated to agree with you Pauleo, I just had a hard time saying it. My first car was a GM, I have loved all the GM products I have had and driven in 38 yrs of driving.
This last go around with them has forever turned me against them!
When a corporation would rather go to administrative court (and possibly have to buy your vehicle back) than to provide you with a simple measurement for alignment purposes then, I have no use for it.
BTW, they never even bothered to reply of call after my last letter.
I am still mulling over options!

It pains me to see you guys that feel this way about GM. I have owned 2 Pontiacs, an Oldsmobile and 4 Chevys (all GM products) in my short 10 year driving career and I have yet to have a bad experience with any of them (and 3 of the Chevys I bought new). Maybe it's because I've never owned anything else, but I have yet to get into too many vehicles from other manufacturers that I really like. There are some that look really good from the outside, but I guess I'm just stuck on the GM interiors. When I look at a Ford or even Dodge interior it just doesn't feel "right" to me. I have debated on several occasions buying a Mitsubishi Eclipse in my years, but now with the Cobalt available if I was in the market for a car like that I'd probably go that route. I guess I must have just been really lucky in all my years that I've had the good "Friday" cars/trucks from GM because I think that they are the best ever (at least for my money).

I've owned over 60 cars and trucks in my time, mostly GM but also Ford, Chrysler and even AMC. Also a few foreign cars. I've never had any real problems with most of them, except some of the really old stuff (or weird stuff like that Saab and Jaguar) that I knew were junk when I bought them, either for basic transportation or projects to fix up.
Some of my favorite GMs I've owned:
1963 Chevy Impala SS 409
1964 Chevy Nova SS w/ 327 V8 swap (originally 6 cyl)
1965 Chevy Caprice (first year) w/ 396
1966 Buick Riviera GS 425
1968 Chevelle wagon w/ 327/350hp, factory 4 speed and 4:11 posi 12 bolt
1970 Olds 442 W-30
1973 Chevy El Camino 454
1974 Vega "Estate Wagon" w/ 331ci/450hp V8
There are many others but those are the "stand outs" of the collection. I've been pretty loyal to GM up to now. As I said earlier, it's not just GM. Most American manufacturers just won't stand behind what they sell anymore and I'm tired of dealing with them. All the problems I've had with my Crewcab the dealer hasn't fixed, except the gas gauge (it failed completely in warranty). Fortunately, most of them have been minor and I've learned to live with them, but for what I paid for that truck, I shouldn't have had to live with them. I plan to keep the CC until it can't be fixed anymore but it will be the last GM (or any American made car or truck) I ever own. Sorry but that's just how I feel now.

Frankly, I doubt I will ever buy a new vehicle again. No offense to anyone who plans to, but I feel like I'm being ripped off when buying a new car or truck. Especially when the value depreciates so quickly after leaving the lot.
I got my CC with 18K miles on it last January. It's an 01 model, so it was 3 years old last may. I paid roughly 17K for EVERYTHING--tax, title, and all. I'd rather do that any day than pay $25-27K for a new CC

Yep, I know how you feel! New truck prices are just NUTS!!! With GM's latest offer, "Employee Discount," it's not sooo bad. If you can find a deal like that, then new is the way to go. Otherwise, FORGET IT! BUY USED! Well, at least that's IMHO.wamason wrote:I couldn't agree morea2b wrote:40k for a 1/2 ton pickup makes me sick

Amen....
That's exactly how I feet too....I'm tired of taking it on the chin...let somebody else take that loss.....I'll wait a few months and get a low mileage one before I'll take that kind of loss again..

If I learned one lesson from the last new car purchase (my Crewcab) it's NEVER give them a trade-in. Sell it outright. I know it's a pain but the dealer is going to get their "profit" one way or another and if they can't get it on the initial cost of the vehicle (especially with GM's "employee discount" pricing) then they will get it from your trade-in by not giving you anywhere near what it's worth. You are better off selling your old car yourself.
