Spray Bed liner on other than Beds?

Has anyone used bed liner paint on exterior parts other than the bed?

I bought a used WAAG brush/grille guard that upon closer examination is a little rougher than I thought originally. I am working on just the brush guards for the moment (the grille guard section is at the welding shop having the bottom brackets altered to fit a non ZR2 S-10) and have already applied two spray cans to them.

I prepped the surfaces and followed the instructions but, I just have a gut feeling that that the stuff isn't going to be very durable.

Has anyone used just plain old spray bed liner and had any success? Several brands claim that they can be used for bed rails, nerf bars, fender wells...etc.

If you had success, which brand did you use and can you offer any special tips?

hey reed.....i used a dupont "bedliner" spray on my front shield...looks good!! no chips!! i got the stuff at o'reilly's!!

I used Dupont as well but, am thinking about duplicolor for the rest of the assembly.

I used the spray on bed liner you can buy at tractor supply on my jeep cherokee but it scraped off to easy. So I took it and had the out side done in blue linex and the inside done in black linex. IT worked great. Thats what Im going to do to my bronco as soon as I get the crew cab sold.

I know that the professionally applied stuff is super tough but, I thought that spending 2 to 3 hundred on a used brush guard would be defeating my original intention of saving bucks.

I've had fairly good luck with the Duplicolor spray can stuff but I found (the hard way) that prep is everything. I used it on the running boards (foot boards?) of two garden tractors I rebuilt and it's held up great. I also used it on the floor pan on my Cub but I didn't prep it very well and some of it has peeled off.

I guy that I work with he used the paint on bed liner on his step bars. he picked up at farm & fleet for 60 bucks.

Thanks for all the input guys

I think I will leave the project as it is. The Brush guards have three coats of spray on bedliner. When I get the grille guard back, I'll leave it original until I see how the spray can bedliner does.

Will give an update when they have been on awhile

Well, the guard has been on a couple days and I took a short off road jaunt and pushed a few limbs out of my way with no apparent damage

I then decided to put it through a real test and blazenly charged through an automated car wash (yes, it was not a "no touch" one) and so far so good.

The trouble now is that I like the "subdued" look and am now eyeballing my tail lamp guards, nerfs, bumbers, flares and bottom third of my truck
