Spark knock with the Hypertech Power Programmer
Do any of you guys get spark knock when using the 87 octane tune and 87 octane gas with the HPIII? Maybe its just the oxygenated gas out here in California. It was knocking so bad that I had to put in 91 octane because I left the programmer at home... =/

I haven't had that problem, but I get better mileage on the mid grade , so I run 89 octane most of the time.
You might keep your senses "keyed" for cat troubles.
The rotten egg smell from the RH side, heating up quicker than normal, loud intake noise, knocking/pinging, mileage drop, etc.
The pre-cats have been know to plug on more than just mine.

Thanks for the heads up on the plugged pre-cat... ....I've got about 20k miles on my truck so far, so I'd hope its not plugged already...

Here's what I did to mine when it plugged - Plugged precat
I think mine plugged at about 30K?

I live in CA also, and I'm using the 93 octane tuning even though all we have here is 91 octane. I have had no problems with my tuning, and I actually get better gas mileage with the 91 octane. Occasionally I will fill up with 1/2 tank of 96 octane (Sears Point Sunoco), and 1/2 tank 91 octane, and I can tell you it really wakes up the motor and makes it run much smoother. It sounds like there is something else wrong with your truck. Is it possible that you got some old or cheap gas? I have had spark knock on other vehicles when I tried to use cheap gas.
